Thank you all for your lovely messages, it means a lot 🌞
I spoke to the director of ICU yesterday in Zante 🙂
He said to me he can’t believe that Allan is still with us
He said Allan has fought off ……
A very big heart attack ( off the scale )
A cardiac arrest
pneumonia
Oedema
And he’s still got arrhythmia
He’s also got coronary heart disease (which we didn’t know about)
And he’s still got a slight bit of delirium ( but that’s the least of our problems)
But saying all of that , he’s still with us …..
And that amazing , and Allan is amazing too .🙂

Shelley, my heart goes out to you. We have a saga of medical problems here too so I really do understand your feelings. This is a classic example of how necessary travel insurance is. I wish you and your family the very best of good luck.

Yes it’s always important to get travel insurance, as this would of cost us a fortune, and thank goodness I declared everything 🌞

I haven’t been on the Forum recently - but just read your post. What an unfortunate run of fortune. Your husband is a strong person! I wish him - you and your family the very best going forward. Take care.

David.

Hi Shelly just caught up with this thread.
So sorry to read all that has happened and as with everyone else Lynne and I will be thinking of you and wishing some good karma your way.
Really hope you guys can get back here as soon as possible as that will remove a whole level of stress and allow you to focus more on Allan's recovery in a more familiar environment.
Stephen and Lynne.

I just don’t know where to start ……
So I’ll try my best …..
Those that know my situation will understand what Allan and myself have been through the last 18 months…… so…..
27 days ago myself and Allan boarded a plane to the beautiful island of Zakynthos it’s our favourite place to go on holiday, we have been going to the same apartments for about 7 years now , it’s a family based accommodation and the owners live on site , it a small place with only 12 rooms in total ……
We had only been on the island for about 3 hours and tragedy struck…….
( I’ll try just to keep to the basics) At the time this all happened we were sitting on the sun lounges ……
Allan said he he didn’t feel to well so he said he was going to our room to have a lay down , about 20 mins late I went to our room…..
Allan was laying on the bed , and he said he didn’t feel right ….
I then said I’ll just have a shower, 10 mins later , Allan said get me some help , so I ran to get help , the owners and there son , came running with me too my room, they called a private ambulance ( which I only found out about a week ago) …..
Allan suffered 2 major cardiac arrests , the first arrest took 30% of his heart and the next took 50% of his heart so he only has 20% of his heart beating…..
Luckily enough Allan had both the attacks whilst the medical team were here , he had one in our room and one in the ambulance ……
The medical team in Zakynthos intensive care unit, said Allan is a very lucky and strong man , he’s got two death certificates, and he might have brain damage, but we don’t know for sure about that yet ……
Allan was in a coma for 14 days , and I was told to prepare myself to say my last goodbyes ……
The visiting time to see Allan is only 5.30 - 6.00, but that’s enough at the moment as Allan is very tired , also he’s been in bed for the last 27 days , he’s lost so much weight too …..
Our son came out to Zante a few days after this happened and then our daughter came out the same day as our son travelled back to the UK ……

I’m trying to get Allan repatriated back to the UK as he will need an icu air ambulance or jet ……
When we get back to the UK Allan will be taken to a hospital icu section where he will hopefully have a operation, either a defibrillator or a pacemaker, or put on a list for a heart transplant, that’s what I’ve been told in Zante hospital, but also they said it will be up too the UK medical team to decide, what is best for Allan ……
It’s been a very challenging/emotionally time for me and Allan too ……
I really hope we get home soon……
Wishing you both the very best. Hoping for a positive outcome 🙏

We’re now home after 33 days 🌞
Thank goodness 🎉
I feel its all been surreal 🙂
I’m very anxious at the moment 😲
I can’t wait until Alan can come back home from the hospital 🌞
Alan will have stents put in and a defibrillator too 🌞
It will be a long time for Alan to get back to a new normal again 🌞
We we’re only getting used to our new normal from his accident at work 🙁

Hi Shelly, Good to hear that you are both back safely & at least that part of the ordeal is over. It sounds like there is a good treatment plan in place for Allan moving forwards so that is good progress. We can't emphasise enough how well you are doing. We have found that when going through difficult times that If you can manage to focus just on one day (or even one hour or minute) at a time as much as possible that it will help to bring the anxiety down a little. Probably the best thing that you can do for Allan at the moment is to make sure that you are OK so cherish yourself.

love & prayers, Ian & Sue.
