Been waiting on a set of sill guards to arrive from the states all the uk ones i have seen have been badly corroded due to our roads and salt.
Looked all over but found a set on ebay.com
There not perfect but 100 times better than what i had and for under half the cost of new im pleased.

Whilst fitting them gave the door openings a good clean not been done before but now spotless.

And after all these shiny engine bays of late decided i must get mine respectable.
Gave the power steering pipe a sanding and a lick of paint and degreased and cleaned it up.

Happy with the results the power steering cooler certainly looks better but wants removing really for full clean and power coat but crustyness has gone and it looks a little more respectable.:)

I got a set of the same sill guards from eBay - I think they look great compared to the scuffed OEM set.

New from sopers around £50 each got these ones for £36 plus postage .
Tried a refurb but they where just too far gone so these came up. .com and .de were far more forth coming with them than uk ebay so its just a case of finding them.

I found myself removing and painting bolts and screws last Saturday afternoon Ant. One of the 4 larger ones was starting to look a bit crusty, so I painted it, but that made the other 3 look dull. 4 down, 4 to go. The 2 smaller ones each side of the rad cover were next and then I noticed that one of the 2 securing the bonnet catch was corroded too and .........................................................

There may be more though.;)

Then, when Shirl saw me staring at my nice clean engine bay, smiled and shook her head I thought, If that was a nice shiny bathroom she would get it!=))

Little tip - remove the felt from the bonnet underside for less dust, weight and most important more audible induction noise ;)

Funny you should say that lol i thought a few bolts looked in need but need paint for them .Have done the two bonnet catches as they were a rusty mess so sanded painted and laquered them along with the springs and bolts.
It will be revisited at some point need to repaint the boot shut too as that is like just painted with base but at points its primer too.

Removed it today and cleaned it , it wants replacing really but will leave it on rather than risk any heat damage to the bonnet .

Thanks they work well only seen one other set not sure what they where fitted to.
They came off a white 2.8 that had been front ended. Thought they may be fitted to 1.9's but not in this case.

Both of my cars have the same Ant, BMW were really mean with the paint TBH. The only other cars I've seen this on is Citroens, now ain't that a shame!

I presume its just the way they are put together may be they are based and bolted up before they get hit with lacquer.
