Personally I think it's a case of " If you can't see it, it doesn't matter" And, you can't see it until you open the hood or the trunk !!. Never seen it on a European BMW only the US models.

Removed it today and cleaned it , it wants replacing really but will leave it on rather than risk any heat damage to the bonnet .
I never thought of it as heat protection but interesting you mention it, not had an issue and have it out for a few years now though.

They didn't paint the whole underside of the bonnet fully though so could do with coat of paint to look better.

its nothing to do with heat protection its there to reduce noise.

you'd have to get some serious heat into a bonnet to mess the paint up

Been waiting on a set of sill guards to arrive from the states all the uk ones i have seen have been badly corroded due to our roads and salt.
Looked all over but found a set on ebay.com
There not perfect but 100 times better than what i had and for under half the cost of new im pleased.

Whilst fitting them gave the door openings a good clean not been done before but now spotless.

And after all these shiny engine bays of late decided i must get mine respectable.
Gave the power steering pipe a sanding and a lick of paint and degreased and cleaned it up.

Every little helps mate. Good luck with the Op and a speedy recovery. Oh, your bonnet catch could do with a clean and when you've finished, so does mine mate =))

Far too much tinkering time =))
No such thing.;) Had to fit a new O/S/F spring and top mount/bearing on Shirl's car yesterday, not half as much fun as doing all four on my car though.:)

I'd be happy to mate, whenever. I've got two trolley and some small stands so we could get all four corners up and level.

Tony.

ps. New small project starts this weekend, if they arrive on time.
