I once recorded 54 miles to the gallon in my E85 2.0L going to work, 24 miles. I drove there at 40 miles per hour behind a lorry completely unable to overtake it because of oncoming traffic. A most boring journey. Usually MPG was about 38mpg. my new car E89 Z4 is quite capable of ding the same but is I put it in sport the mpg goes down to 25-27mpg.

I calculate my mpg at every fill up by miles covered against fuel used. Miles divided by litres of fuel. multiplied by 4.54 = mpg

My 2.8 auto is currently returning 29.5mpg. My OBC says 32mpg

I hasten to add that I drive like my Grandad
This dropped to around 23mpg when I was chasing Hugh @miller1098 around the Welsh countryside trying to hang on to his boot rack =))

I'm normally rushing around like a nutter during my working week, and I've piloted plenty of motorcycles at wharp speeds over the years and although I'm still here to tell the tales I prefer to drive more sedately these days.

I've been told by those of us who cruise in France that they can get up to 45 mpg out of there 3.0L Zeds, which is excellent mpg for that engine. They don't have to work so hard at 70 or 80 mph

I'd noticed consumption is at its best at those speeds. It's odd because they normally target 56mph as that is where the testing is done.

Mine has the digital clock version with the controls on the left stalk to cycle through. Think mine was an optional extra at purchase.

I think @Mint recorded 52 mpg cruising in France and Spain last year in his Z4 E85 2.5l.

Almost right Mike, It was just while we were in France so not the whole trip but yes we got 52MPG. I my defence we were in a lot of roadworks at a very limited speed. I certainly didn't get anything like 52 on the twisty bits while having a bit of fun.;)

Was that 52mpg for the whole trip, the tank of fuel or just the short while you were tootling around?

my mpg improves if i reset the service thingy, one it gets down to 2 green bars the mpg starts to drop, its not a massive amount but it defo makes a difference. best i have managed is 40mpg in my m44, this is very difficult to repeat though. (its an improvement on my previous 27-32 mpg in my ex honda)

It was just while I was tootling around Gary. It was nearer 40 for the whole trip.
