If I could suggest - I think you need to get a good assessment of the mechanical workings of your car from a reputable mechanic and then take the issues one by one and resolve - in your own time - and when finances are available - that's what I did and I've had five great years of trouble free zedding - hope I haven't spoken too soon - good luck!:)

That has been done David and if you look on page 3 of my newly purchased car thread you will see this is exactly what has been done.
A1 independent BMW indy serviced my car and did a lot of work and gave me a list which I have done everything on the list at great expense.
Not sure I can justify any more expensive .
Thanks for advise guys.

I did six years daily driving in my Z, never had any problems.
In actual fact, never had any problems with the many cars I have owned over the years.

Edit: Unless I crashed them......:bag:

Don't forget Tracy that the whole time you've been fixing everything and driving it that that caliper has been deteriorating as most brake parts do! I know how much you're feeling like it's never ending but as @DavidM says it's about maintaining the car, now just unfortunate timing! Good luck. JIM

It is an old car and old cars are not reliable.Much has been said about using "specialists" but my local flea pit garage looked after all my Z series cars. £40 per hour was the labour charge. A specialist around £70. The Z3 is quite a simple car so can easily be fixed by any competant mechanic. A mobile mechanic would be able to fix the caliper problem very easily and cheaply. If you got another Z there would be no guarantee that it would not be the same. Take a deep breath, enjoy the Bank holiday weather and take your time about what you do next. And get some breakdown cover! I have a Lloyds Premier with travel insurance, home emergency, AA breakdown cover all included. Is there not a club member nearby who can help?

Hi Tracy reading your thread seems a lot of good advise ,the caliper problem should be a easy fix and if you have already tipped a load of money in it ,its like walking up a hill once you get to the top you have done it, so it may only take a few more steps to get to the top but for you to decide weather it worth it !
no new z 3s any more so i would think not that easy to get another one .
Wish you well and hope you can solve the issue .The cars have many common parts with other bmw s and seem very reasonable on price compared with other cars out their.
All the best ,Mick.

BiG REQUEST

Any kind hearted capable mechanical Z owner in the South East that can fit me a new caliper please.
I would be ever so grateful any expenses paid and tea supplied.

Cheers Tracy.

If I was closer I would have done it for you. Calipers are easy to swap over. Takes about 40mins.
