If you have a quality hood in good condition, why do you need a hardtop at all? Removing/storing a hardtop seems like a big hassle when you can just press a switch for alfresco all year round. Perhaps I am not getting it, but my E36 convertible lives outside without any issues.

My hood is brand new, yet I still have the hardtop on. As I use it all year round it's is a lot warmer and quieter with the roof fitted plus it has a heated rear screen which is beneficial in the winter. If we have a nice day I have a hoist in the garage so I can get it on and off and my own which I will do if I'm off out and it's dry. The car is garaged so it's not like I am protected the soft top with a hardtop from the winter weather either. Plus it adds a completely different look to the car when its fitted. I think any zed looks great with a hardtop.

For me it's nothing at all to do with the worry of my hood getting damaged. I love having the option of the having the hardtop on and love the way it completely alters the look of the car. Noise reduction and warmer in winter are the practical bonuses, like @g8jka says.

Most practical option where I come from, it's not only cold but we can get a couple of feet of snow overnight which is a lot of weight to put on the hood material and framework. Plus I too love the look! JIM

And in conclusion, @hard top doesn't get his "I told you so" just yet!
great work, but honestly, i've decided to not build a stand. Finally my hardtop resting on just a bits of packing foam in my office. Which only makes my office even more manly man cave!

i'd love to put hardtop to the garage, but i am afraid the fact that my garage is also my woodwork shop makes it unsuitable to store such a precious item as hardtop is!
