I don't how much it cost but @Eddie Zedder and (I think) @Murray Wall said new Vanos seals improved the performance from their 2 litre cars.

I'd like to get the vanos seals done on mine. @Lee mentioned this to me when i was at his last year. They are ready around 100k and mine has just hit that and it can cost a loss in power although mine pulled 195bhp when we did the rolling road last spring.

Yeah just where the rubber meets the maf engine side you insert the hose, hold the Revs around 2-3k and spray the can till it’s empty takes a good few minutes to empty. You’ll hear the engine note change as it starts taking out carbon.

Sams smoked like mad when we did it and Niall’s weren’t so bad. Good indication of carbon build up.
We did mine at zedshed south. Twas interesting! :wideyed:

The engine cleaner I used was BG44k and It sorted out the tick-over when you stop at a junction and made the car just much smoother than before and I believe had a hand it stopping the oil consumption problem, the biggest improvements have been the Vanos repair and the exhaust (sport cats and 2 straight through pipes from front to back) though the later is probably because it changes the way you drive the car when it just sings at high revs ;), My Z is off the road at the moment as the MOT ran out and I have had to replace the ABS/ASC unit and a wheel speed sensor (try getting hold of a 2 pin version!) and a new brake pipe after finding a hole in the brake pipe that was so small the fluid was just kinda seeping through slowly and up behind the heat shield thing covering the fuel filter! the car has been a pain and nothings gone smooth!! now just waiting on 2 brake pressure sensors and it should be done :)

The fullest service (Inspection 2) will bring your car as close as possible to how good it should be = no more than a standard service.

Reduce the brake disc run-out to as close to zero as possible. Ensure the brakes don't drag = no cost

Inflate tyres to the correct pressure = no cost

Confirm tracking is correctly set = no cost, unless requiring adjustment

After you have done that, then it may be worth spending some extra money on performance.

Heavy metal knob

Not because it may actually make it faster but because it makes it sound and feel faster - and as you have a 6 pot it is a glorious sound.

I’ve even taken out the sound deadening pad from under the bonnet so I can hear the induction better. Worth at least 5bhp for the sound alone!

It also means you get the feeling of speed without the speeding ticket

The gearknob removes that saloon car feel and give you a a proper feeling shift - again not actually faster but it feels it :)
what is you r choices on exhaust and air induction for a 2.8
