Just wondering about wiring a DRL controller into the front fog lights & disconnecting them as fog lights can't think of a situation where I've ever needed them.
what are the legal implications?, don't think front fogs are tested as part of the MOT @t-tony
Could even put some brighter LED bulbs in
Gary, do you mean wiring the controller into the fog lights so when the fog lights are on the DRLs go out ? If so you'll also have to wire it so when your headlights are on the DRLs go off to meet the lighting regs.

The guys that I have followed say they are bright with a slight blue tinge.
They're good Dave, subtle and effective and look like they should be there IMHO

They don't necessarily have to switch off when the headlight are turned on, but if they don't go off they do have to dim to the normal "position" (side) lights brightness. This is what my controller does, only thing is when they're dimmed they do tend to "flicker" a bit so I have also wired in a switch to kill the power to the DRL feed too.

mmm this is not how I read the regs Tony...
The electrical connections to the obligatory dim-dip device or running lamps, as the case may be, shall be such that the light output specified in paragraph 1 or 2 above is emitted automatically whenever–

(a)the engine of the vehicle is running, or the key or devices which control the starting or stopping of the engine are in the normal position for driving the vehicle, and

(i)the obligatory position lamps, but not the headlamps, of the vehicle are switched on, or

(ii)the obligatory position lamps are switched off.

There is no requirement relating to an optional dim-dip device or an optional running lamp.

So mine are on when the ignition is on but go off when I turn the sidelights & headlights on.

Mine work with sidelights but dim with dipped headlights on Dave. You must have taken a feed to the controller from the sidelight circuit? The instructions said if they don't dim they should extinguish like on factory fit DRL's.

I did so they work like OEM DRLs, in fact my controller didn't have the option of dipping. It did have an option to connect into the turn signal circuit so the one DRL extinguished when you were indicating. I think that is for when the DRL and indicator are close together.

I think it is, but I don't like these new cars where they turn of a position light and leave the turn light flashing. I find it distracting to be honest, probably here to stay though

I went with something slightly different and fitted cob led as they are bright but vey slim in depth ( with a drl relay ) so come on with engine start extinguishing when side lights or dip switch on

She looks fantastic and lights work well with the colour with their slight tint. Do you remember where you found the lights as so many I have looked at are two big for the space next to the spots.
Interesting thought to see if existing fogs can be converted to DRLs. Tim

You can get fogs with LED's in which could be used as DRL's. Theres a few sellers that do them but I don't think they are cheap. And most seem to like using my car to promote their product  wouldn't be as bad if they offered me a set, but wouldn't give me anymore than 10% discount and they still worked out over a hundred quid.

Yes saw those on a site I found but they described them as parking lights rather than DRLs. Even though they looked to have LEDs in the light cluster. Yes also seen over £100 but look good. Did you fit with self dimmer system.
