View attachment 124099 Think that unit should attach to a bracket up inside there, cover panel on my 2003 2.5 has two locating screws on the front end of it and screw in the two holes on front edge.

Thanks, I'll take a look, still not convinced I have the right piece of trim though, it's been hacked about to fit

I went back and took the trim off again today, I've included a couple of snaps below, I can't see anywhere to fix the control unit to and the screw holes really don't look very professional!

I'll try to get a chance to take my car apart this week and see if I can find the relative part numbers for you Jim.

Tony.

Hey Jim, I took the lower panel off my car and it shows yours is the correct part but maybe has had a hard life. Part numbers correspond.

When you put the part number into Real OEM it comes up with part listing
51457036390.

Doesn't say if it's still available so you'll need to ring the dealers.

Thanks so much Tony, I really appreciate you doing that. I'll see if I can source myself a replacement that hasn't been hacked about so much :)

Jim, found one while looking for something else. £9.99 or make offer. Free P&P. Doncaster breaker. eBay item number
162663468989 don’t think you'll find one much better.

Think that unit should be bolted on a bracket up inside there above the large loom of wires, you might have to take the glovebox out and drop the fuse board down to have a good look, the control box in mine is alloy casing not plastic like yours.

Just went to replace the knackered piece of trim with the replacement I ordered, thought I may as well pull out the glove box and see if I can mount the control unit properly at the same time....still not seeing an obvious mount point in my car though?

Ah, I just re-read your post @colb I haven't dropped the fuse board down yet, will try that now

Angled bracket should be up behind the fuse board, should see it if you drop the board, two screws at the bottom and it has a bump on the top that fits in a locating hole at the top, once the screws are out a good tug downwards will let it drop down into the footwell.

I wish I'd read this sooner! I couldn't figure out how to get the board out so it's all back together now, I'll pull it all apart again soon but guess I'll need to find some suitable screws to fix the unit to the mount anyway. Thanks for all the help and advice :)
