I use the 3m pads from ultimate finish. They are around 3 or 4 inch and i use a 3 or 4 inch backing plate. Since i met up with Russell O who is a detailing expert on this site he recommended them and i now only use them. I also only use the 3m compounds as they are straight forward. Not cheap but excellent results
Thanks again mate much appreciated,I'll have a look at them .

So had a play with my King Barney and the Chemical guys pads with the VSS scratch and swirl. It's made a difference but I think the paint on my car is too hard for the VSS scratch and swirl to take the heavier marks out. So will have to look at the 3M pads and compounds one day.

The Collinite wax was simple to put on and off.

@Bozzy @Antm72 which backing plate did you guys get - I need a 4inch and see many out there but not entirely sure which fits the King Barney (it came with a 5inch and I think 6inch backing plate which are too big for the 4inch chemical guys hex pads which are 4inch)

Dino I just have the two backing plates that came in the kit. But I have bought some new hex logic pads and two different grades of Menzerna compounds as the vss didn't remove all the swirls on my van, although it did come up well for an old motor.

The bonnet and wings were resprayed by the Ford dealer when I bought it 11 years ago, unfortunately they didn't apply any clear coat. So when I washed it after a while the wash mit would turn blue, and those panels went very dull. So I went over it with the d.a and vss, then waxed it and it came up ok.
Took these pics a week after it was polished in which time it's been covered in dust as next door had a new roof and been driven on wet dirty roads.
Got me thinking now,I may have to also get a smaller backing pad.
