Luckily on the underside of the boot lid BMW have kindly punched indents where you have to drill the holes for the fixing kit.....phew :), so if I got it wrong, it would be their fault .

It's even water tight after washing the car, post fitting.
Not to everyone's taste I know but I really like the matching case that locks on to the rack.
All we need now is another zed holiday / road trip .
Thanks to @Low Rider for supplying me with quite rare items .

Steve.

Wouldn't have had the bottle to have taken a drill to ours! Like you say, I think it's a bit marmite but as long as you're happy with it, that's all that matters

I very nearly bottled it to be honest but as I was home alone this morning, it meant I could take my time.
Having said that, if I had a newish zed like yours, there's no way I'd have attempted it.

Nicely done. I have thought about adding one of those to my Z. I have seen pictures of the rack with the bent part at the bottom (towards back of car) and towards the top of the rack (towards front of the car). I always thought it w designed to help hold the bag on during acceleration, That would imply the loop should be located towards the back of the car.
Any thoughts on that fitment detail?

Wow, what a debate we had here for the right position...!
Brake is more dangerous than gas!

There's been plenty of banter on here over the years about which way round the rack should go but I think the raised bar should face the rear window, to prevent your luggage hurtling into the back of your head, should you have to do an emergency stop, should the luggage break free. Also it has to fit that way to fit the hard suit case.

I realized why I like the boot rack and the case on the Zed!
Because is amplifying the retro look of the car, with this feature for antebellum sport cars.
Again I'm surprised how that came out from a German brand in the '90s!

Sorry mate, I appreciate your kind offer of assistance (doing it for me ).
There is something else I'd like to get done on it though, something I changed my mind about not too long ago .

Well done on getting it on and water tight. For those that love it, great..... personally I prefer the clean lines of the Zed with out it.

No problem Steve, we could have a visitor that day as he's keen to learn if that's ok with you. Quite like the yellow Viper stripes too . . . . . . . . ;)=))

I have mixed opinions on them, I kind of really like them but not sure I'd like a permanent one, maybe I should have two boot lids and fit a multiplug for the wiring, great job though mate, did you paint the bare metal

Thanks mate, yes I painted the bare metal with the touch up paint you gave me.
Taken the rack off now, so there's just the shiny blanking plugs on so the full outdoor cover is back on.
