Thanks mate, yes I painted the bare metal with the touch up paint you gave me.
Taken the rack off now, so there's just the shiny blanking plugs on so the full outdoor cover is back on.
It might benefit to put a smear of grease around the edge of the holes before putting the blanks in

So armed with a new step drill and instructions kindly provided by @Uncle_Clanger, I thought let's have go....

Luckily on the underside of the boot lid BMW have kindly punched indents where you have to drill the holes for the fixing kit.....phew :), so if I got it wrong, it would be their fault .

It's even water tight after washing the car, post fitting.
Not to everyone's taste I know but I really like the matching case that locks on to the rack.
All we need now is another zed holiday / road trip .
Thanks to @Low Rider for supplying me with quite rare items .

Steve.
Good work Steve

Nice job Steve. You’ve done a wonderful job and even got it the right way around. Shame the car is facing the wrong way though :D

Well you never know Steve, we saw a few little soft tops towing a trailer or small caravan in France.

I couldn't bring myself to drill it. Looks good though and serves the purpose you need it for.
