You could always put a 2.8 badge on the back like Zedonist has done!
Don't listen to that Mike, other badges other than the one's that should be on the car (also stickers etc) is not done.
t-tony sticks all kinds of s*** on his car.....ha ha;)

M52 uses a nikasil aluminium block (North American models used iron blocks, except in the Z3 which received an aluminum block with iron sleeves)??;)

Please don't fight in front of the new kid!!! Welcome Mike from Canada. Were you able to contact Andy re the exhaust? You can always PM him and then no one will hijack your conversation with the type of foolishness that goes on around here. That said, you aren't going to get better assistance than from those same fools that troll around here. Just so you know, the forecast here is for snow turning to rain for the next 4 days. You must pay attention, you never know when there's a test coming. JIM

Well done guys, but I would have thought your research would have expanded beyond this site, there were 7 versions of the M52 block, the original was cast iron, they later produced the the all aluminium nikasil M52 block which was used around Europe, but suffered severe corrosion due to high sulphur content of the European fuel, this block was not used in the Z3 in any variant and in the USA they used the old iron block, to get around the Sulphur issue, they bored out the aluminium blocks and inserted 1.5mm cast iron cylinder liners, it is this variant of block that is fitted to European Z3 which alas made it so heavy and cumbersome to drive, that the M44 remained the original, most popular and sought after version even to this day!

You guys also got:

a water pump with plastic impellers which tends to explode after around 50,000 miles, the M44 has and always had a metal impeller

Vanos or double vanos, which is a Spanish word for trouble and even more trouble,

A self destructing Disa valve,

Leaking cam cover, drips oil onto manifold, fire risk

The humble m44 eh? :)
Why be humble when you have something great to celebrate, so you now need to join the M44 Massive, Gaz, if your watching, can oblige please sir?

Any questions Mike on this engine just give me a shout, happy to help out, but if you keep it serviced regular it will look after you, I would as a matter of course do a couple of oil changes over the next couple of months to ensure it is as clean inside as can be, replace the coolant fully, put in some new spark plugs, and just check the induction / vacuum hoses for cracks or splits. To get the best out of it it loves to be driven on the revs from 3k upwards it comes alive.

Thank you for your advice really is nice.... :)
As for the service all lights are green, but like you say oil and coolant change with brand new plugs will make peace of mind, are these engines belt or chain driven? Better order some essentials from BMW then......

Don't trust the lights, reset tools are cheap, easy way to help sell a car without doing the service, reset the lights, peace of mind and £25 change the oil, Fuchs Titan Supersyn 5w40 is the recommended oil, and only need 5 litres, with NGK iridium upgrade plug and premium unleaded fuel you can't go wrong. Filters can be generic not OEM. The engine is chain driven, so no expensive cam belt changes.

Jim, its called banter, between consenting adults. I know Zedonist has to cover up his inferiority complex with bluster, but it's all in the best possible taste. (crosses legs) :D It's verbal fighting with blunt swords, which is great fun with no one getting hurt!

At least I have a complex Bonzo, in my book better than a simplex........

Yes Jim, good natured banter, between one adult and the Kid ;)

I have started the Cat Fight Thread for now, to allow me to win the battle and the war :p
