126k miles and 12 years old and running like a dream. Just 200m from home with no warning she coughed and stopped. Smoke coming out of the front right wheel arch, family out and hazards on! Popped the bonnet and found loads of oil around the right side bottom of the engine bay. Plenty of oil in the car:wideyed: Recovery guy says "siezed engine":arghh: bugger:mad:. Now in the garage, see what Monday brings.

Oh dear mate! Well at least it's not the Zed! 126k for a galaxy (diesel)?? isn't much. Hopefully it won't be seized, just a bit poorly.

I had one of these years ago, great family bus. Hopefully it is not as bad as a seized engine. Mine blew a turbo and the symptoms were just like you described.

Yeah, agreed Dave. 1.9 TDI, not even run in yet really. I'd need councelling if it was my Zed.

For what we ask it to do, best motor we've ever had. Same turbo from new so could be but engine failed to turn over on request. Ignition just clicked?

Unusuall for a VW engine to do that Andy. Our Gary's TD4 has almost done 200k.

If the old girl is terminal another TD4 (version 2) may be on the horizon as the cars do take a right hammering up the farm track on a daily basis.

I wouldn`t panic just yet. As much as recovery drivers do a great job, some do get a bit carried away with there diagnosis.
We get plenty towed in with some bizarre faults. Those tdi engines are quite a solid old lump. But one weakness they do have
are the turbos. At that sort of mileage and if its never been changed it would be my guess turbo gone pop. Its weather its done any other damage is the question.

Hope it is only the turbo. I thought sized engines normally gave way in a much bigger way than fizzling out like that. The upside is it is still only a car. It can be repaired or replaced. Others this weekend including a family friend of a someone who used to work for me is not so fortunate.

Not good for sure! Rebuild available as the rest of the vehicle looks new?? Cheaper than replacing the vehicle I'd expect! JIM
