Not good for sure! Rebuild available as the rest of the vehicle looks new?? Cheaper than replacing the vehicle I'd expect! JIM
On the proviso it's just the turbo or similar and not a siezed engine JIM, yeah. If not we'll have to wait and see as she is 12 years of age now.

But from what I can see in the pics it's probably worth an engine swap especially at the milage on the car! Hope it all works out to just be a turbo but the click of the starter doesn't sound good! JIM

Prognosis thus far, water pump failure which in turn caused the cambelt to fail. That'll be £1200 please. Oh well, £1200 it is then.

If you've lost the cam belt but not trashed the engine I think puts you in the lucky category. If there's no valve or piston damage you got off lightly. £1200 sounds a bit steep for a belt and pump though. How many hours are they charging?

Engine appeared to be siezed on initial look, so potential worst case scenario is second had engine from a reputable place my mechanic knows. Worst case is new (second hand engine, pump and cambelt). Was travelling at speed when she "coughed" then just after she died. Will know more once they've dived in as it were.

Thanks Paul. Need the Zed for work as I have 3 children to get to school (well, the Boss does). Apparently it's a legal requirement for them to go to school? Who new?=))

That's unfortunate news mate
Similar thing happened on my van some years back, the bottom pulley wheel bolt sheered and threw the cam belt off...had to have a complete new engine, injectors cus they wouldn't come off the old head and new clutch while it was all stripped down......£3600 8 years ago:banghead:,still got the same van now though.

@Andy McDonnell - Andy, a few years ago our Santa Fe destroyed its cambelt and came to a sudden stop. When the garage got the cam cover off, they found out the engine was designed with cambelt failure in mind. The cam followers are designed to break rather than destroying the valves/pistons. Also quicker to fix. Hope yours is the same. Good luck.
