I was just wondering how you made out. I do remember a little better what I did with me truck. I bought 4 keys from e-bay for 80 dollars and a locksmith said he could program one of them for me but I had to have the truck with me so he could get to the truck's computer. Then the computer recognized my original and the new key as 2 separate keys as opposed to one original and a cloned one. With the 2 separate keys the owner's manual shows how the owner can make a clone. About 5 easy steps. So for the cost of one dealer's key, I got 5 keys

Hi @FRANKIE when I get this situation resolved I will post the results for other benefit. I am waiting on the final quote from the local guy. I did email a ebay store that sells replacement keys and they also offer the program option for a total of $199 which also has the remote central locking access. They advised me that they need the car to do that as they cannot do what they do without the car. This tells me that they plug into the OBDII and reprogram the EWS, not just replicating the original key.

In the meantime I have been doing research on the key programming process and with the right tools it is a 4 minute job. It is unfair and dishonest to charge so much for this service.

You're right but how much are the tools?

I am not seriously looking into it. Laser cutters can cost thousands and replicators are relatively cheap especially if you get ones that don't do a huge range of vehicles. I am also willing to send my original key to the USA or wherever to get it cloned if I really get desperate. Can you look in your area and see how much it cost to get a key CLONED [not additional key] without the car being present? The FOB central locking is not important, just cut the key and CLONE the transponder. :)

Thanks but don't bust your balls on this, no big deal. In another forum I Have asked them for assistance in getting prices and the possibility of helping me out. :)

Ok guys,

I am having trouble getting quotes for additional keys except from the Stealers at $620. so;

A. There is a device which is called a AK90 and the Ebay part is 360909046922. I will pull the EWS and make sure the chip is one of those identified as OK. I have reviewed some videos on it any it's a maybe for that...
B. The diamond key I have my eyes on is this Ebay part number 121319241431.
C. It costs $40 to get the blank cut her in Tasmania.
D. Programming the central locking is easy.

So, I will be asking around to make sure this combination will work. If anyone has tried and succeeded/failed please let me know, appreciate it. :)

Hi, not sure if this is the right thread to ask im still finding my way around forum. Local stlrship charged me £140 for new key as their initial diagnosis was that this was the reason my remote locking doesnt work. Next they charged me £80 to tell me they have checked the mirror where the ir receiver is and all the rest and concluded that GMIV unit is at fault, quoting the other side of £500. I managed to buy the general module with exact same numbers. Remote locking still does not work once i have pluged it in. No, i have gone trough the key programming procedure ie turning ignition, holding unlock and pressing 3x lock. The key blinks as it should but it still will not operate remote locking. Im hoping for some help before the garages charge the fortune with no guarantee of resolving it. Do i need to program the second hand gm iv into car? Central locking and everything else operated by gm works a treat of the replacement unit just not the remote locking. My z3 is 1998 1.9 16v jap import. Not sure what else i can do. I was guaranteed the second hand gmiv as working and checked so before i suspect this i would like to try and see what else i can do.

If you're not too desperate Paul, I'm back to work tomorrow and I can see what I can find out for you?
Tony.

...or not maybe, lol. On another point what inpa version or setup i need to remove initialization block in ir module. I was told by the garage today psst that they live off the forums giving ppl daft advise on forums. What a horrible thing to say;) anyway i was going from one place to another and in fairness all seem pretty crap. One didnt know the difference between 433hz mirror and ir mirror and suggested swapping between them, the other was pairing the key with door open (which set off initialization block) but did not clear the codes if old gmiv, and another cleared the codes tried pairing well but had no idea about initialization lock. Its crazy;) So my mission is no scrap their help and try and gegt it done with your help and do is as a hobby. It looks i spent all day in them garages with no progress and if i had used this time to get it sorted at home it would have been done by 9, i hope. Any suggestions really welcome and also what manuals in electronic versions do you guys find the best.
