When I came round and saw you putting that steering wheel back on the other day I actually thought it was a Royals one, it genuinely looks as good and feels as good as one. Despite the time involved against the cost I would probably do the DIY on my own next time if they did one for the Z3.

Now you need to work out a Z4 steering wheel retro fit for the Z3 with all the multi function buttons, one for roof, garage door, headlight flasher, wipers, ejector seat and toilet flush. You have a month to get it sorted...

You have done a lovely job on the z, all the little detail touches make such a difference.

a quick update:

after always being bugged by the ride height, I finally confirmed my suspicion that a previous owner had fitted standard rear springs to the car which came with the MSport suspension out of the factory...

So I got a set of these:

Sits and handles much better now:

That does look much nicer Pete, especially on those 19's mate. To be honest, this happens very frequently as usually you can buy a pair of standard height springs for less than 1 Genuine sport spring and most customers only want the cheapest, not the best.:(

Tony.

ps. DRLs look very nice too.

Don't worry, he has an app to open them...

I wanted to put '3' on the other gate, but it wouldn't have been any use as a brace.
Yeah, shame the picture doesn't show the 4 on the back of the other gate then?;)

as for those style 108;s get them split thats the hardest part... once they done you can relax and take your time on them ....i got a few tips if you need them.....

Just read this all again and can't think why I hadn't commented on it Pete, the boss must have took the iPad away from me before I had a chance. Well here goes!!!!!! What a lovely Z4 this has turned out to be you should be right proud. The wheels add that something special to it IMO. The sow's ear has certainly turned into a silk purse.
Well done, wish I had your energy.

Roy:thumbsup:

a little update (but no photo's)
Ordered a GapTech RCH+ roof module, to open and close the roof with 3 clicks of the keyfob

I fitted one of these to each of my previous 2 x Z4's

Ordered on bank holiday Monday but was a little nervous as the next few days there was no acknowledgement, so I wondered if he was still in business,
Anyway I sent him an email and he answered the same day, and the module turned up the next day.

Fitted it yesterday by cutting 5 wires, and joining/soldering/heat shrinking back together (better than the supplied Scotchlok connectors).
Works a treat as always, and I should have got it a long time ago,

then on another note:

Yep, they're a great piece of kit Pete. My original one had a few wobbles and when I contacted the seller he swapped it with no problems at all. Very happy. Re the wheels, that's why I have a winter set.

so the wheels the car was bought with are finally done..
from this

20200524_175233 (2).jpg

20190314_182047.jpg
The tyres are 2 x Event tyres on the front, and one Runway and one Sunny on the rear, but every tyre was like new... Staggered sizes too.
I knew I had to change at least one rear, just to get at least matching tread patterns across the axle, but this refurb was to be done on a budget just to see if I could salvage the wheels. Tyres would be changed later for named ones but would work for now albeit with one £60 change from the Sunny to a Runway.

Then, after two bolts snapped, I was wondering whether or not to continue or just throw them, but I carried on even though I had a pig to remove them using cobalt drill bits and a 7.5mm tap.
20190314_182109.jpg

After that I got rid of all the kerbing and corrosion with scotch-brite pads on a drill,

20200602_182904 (2).jpg

and the inside of the wheels had to have a cup wire brush on an angle grinder to get rid of the corrosion.

20190324_182639.jpg

20200602_182827.jpg

So I tried just one rim and one inner Rim etch primed
and then coated in Halfords 'silver'

I got two different colours from Halfords
Rattle cans of 'silver' for the rims and 'Steel' (hopefully darker grey) for the inners,

I rubbed down the inners

20200525_194322 (1).jpg

and etch primered them
After rubbing that down and then top coating a few coats, everything was going along ticketty boo.

until I laquered one wheel rim and one inner.
There were runs everywhere on the inner...... and also, 'spot the difference' in colours, hardly noticeable.

20200524_175244.jpg

So I left it a day and tried to rub it down, and the laquer just flaked off, and as I subsequently found out, so did the wheel rim.
In fact the laquer blasted off with my pressure washer..

That was it they were now heading for the tip..I had had enough.

My missus actually swayed me with the argument I had been working on them so long it would be a waste of all my efforts and why not send them to be done elswhere now all the prep was done.

So I actually thought the rims could be OK if I tried again, but using hammerite silver, and this time I will send the inners for powder coating

So the rims were redone, awaiting a weeks work of delay on the inners

20200607_170550.jpg

looking definitely lighter.

and then the Inners came back, ready for a trial fit, with newly purchased centre badges

20200617_113948.jpg 20200617_183938.jpg

so all bolted back together using Loctite thread lock and 2 new m7 titanium bolts. and trial fitted:

20200620_160535.jpg

But then the missus said as they are new I should have them on my Z3

(think she prefers the 19's)

Anyway choices choices,
Tried a few different looks today:

They were on the way to the tip, on two separate occasions!
