A bit more progress today. New front side repeaters came in the post. To remove the original ones you have to go behind the wing with a longish screwdriver and push on the tab to release the light unit.

Then clean around the aperture and degrease the area where the double sided tape fits.

These are genuine BMW parts.

The new ones have 3 sprung metal clips which hold the light to the wing.

I decided to apply a piece of black gaffer tape to each of the clips to protect the paint.

The finished article.

Et voila.

Next, a pair of new windscreen wipers. Bosch spoiler type.

Then a ride into town to talk to a man about another project.

Just catching up with your new motor. My favourite colours but I could never have a white car again. A guy up the road sought out the 2.5L N52 engine version - say's its the best one in the E89. How does it compare power wise with you old Z4?

It's certainly a more refined cockpit, but I thought you might be missing a few horses in comparison. But, does it actually matter so much?
Just watch those wheels and keep well away from potholes. They are an expensive habit...

I understand that those particular wheels seem to be the most prone to cracks for some reason Ian. I have a receipt showing that the O/S/R one has been replaced already, the bad news is that all the Pirelli tyres are almost new and run flats on 8.0mm. It also had both rear light units replaced under warranty (probably due to condensation - a common problem)

Connected to a length of 2 core cable. Under the glove box some models have a 12v power socket, mine has the mounting point for the socket only. I intend to fit this socket in the mounting hole.

And Tuesday came, so this happened.
The acrylic panel I had made for the wind blocker (like I had made for the E85) was collected and the "Roadster" decal fitted. The blocker frame on the E89 is made to fold for storage when it is removed so is not quite as rigid as the E85 one. I decided to secure it into the frame with 4 small cable ties. I drilled 4 x 3mm holes and used 2.5mm cable ties.

While I was looking for something else I came across some LED 501 style bulbs, so, as the boot light isn't the best. Festoon style one ordered for the glove box too while I'm at it.

Lastly a job which I will have to re visit later was fitting the Cig. Lighter/12v Power socket into the lower panel below the glove box.

Socket in place and cable stored out of the way.

Also in the centre is where the footwell lights would be , if it had them.
I did get a 2m long USB to USB micro cable fitted from the camera , under the trim down to the centre console so at least I don't have the cable hanging down from the camera now.

The fuse box is a battle for another day.

The one problem I found with the standard boot light, it gets HOT ! LED's great idea, much cooler . . .

Okay, I'll re-route my dashcam cable properly now then - you're right ! I had it down the inside of the windscreen. The image picks up RFI for some reason - gently wobbling image. Clipping a ferrite on there seems to have (mostly) cured the problem.

Aw cheers ! Am I going to Shirebrook ? I dunno, am I going to Shirebrook ? Should I go to Shirebrook ? When is Shirebrook ? So . . . Probably a No then ? I must have missed that one . . .

Ferrite - in theory, yes, closest to the camera. In practice closest to the source of the RFI, except I cant see where it is on mine (and modern cars really should be shielded so its no longer a problem, but mine is). My cable currently comes down the inside of the windscreen and lies on top the dash to the door pillar. I've got the ferrite there. It tends to slide back towards the door pillar and stops working, the image starts doing the funky gibbon wobble again. I've currently got it held in place temporarily with a piece of bluetack so it stays next to the windscreen and doesn't slide. It seems to cure the issue, but I'm not sure I've really got the source yet.

Bottom line - trial and error, and only if you have the problem.
