Hi all Zedders,
I'm on the lookout for new wheels for my M44, having taken advice from a few fellow owners 17" is the way to go. Yes or No?

That would be the ideal way of deciding wouldn't it.

I run a set of 16in over winter an 18 in rest of the time 16in are a lot comfier , however the 18 look better but give a harsher ride, so I would assume 17in are the compromise between looks and ride, both my 16 an 18 run on the same tyre brand and I cannot detect any difference with grip,

Can anyone tell me if MV1's 18" with 225/40 on fronts and 245/40 on rear will fit a pre facelift 98 1.9 running on standard suspension (not lowered), Thanks.:)

Yours is the original narrow rear... What width are the rims and I'll work it out on the wheel calculator. Or if you want to try it's http://willtheyfit.com

Ok, just need to know the tyre sizes you have currently. I know they are style 35 and I know the rim/offset.
Sorry, they're 225/50/16. All around.

This is what I've worked out. The fronts will have 14mm less clearance against the strut, and the outside of the wheel will be 12mm further out.

The rears are 23mm less inner clearance, and extend 15mm further out the arches. What I can't remember is how the narrower rear suspension affects things. Fronts are definitely fine. Hopefully someone else can jump in. I think the rears will be OK, but don't want to say for definite...

Could I just get under the car and measure the clearance from the original wheels to the suspension?

Just not sure if they will fit within the wheel arch and not fowl on the suspension. It'll be a project as they need a refurb and decent tyres. Waiting for someone on the forum to pop up and say that they'll fit. I have no experience of fitting different wheels that are of a totally different size to any car.

There isn't really enough info on the wheels to know if they will fit .
You need to ask the seller what the width (j) the wheels are ie 8/8.5j and also the offset (et/is) ie standard zed is et41 .
These should fit but this info will give you the definitive answer as all bmw wheels bolt on but not all fit.

Hi there, this is all the info I have at the moment, I've just messaged the seller for the offset. I believe Gaz put the offset into the app he had which is earlier in this thread. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=322141155119&globalID=EBAY-GB
