I like them, and what a steal at £275 for Breytons!

I was not planning on doing a guide on how to fit the coilovers as every set is different. But by all means PM me and I'll help anyway I can.

PS do the fronts first as they are the hardest.

Very nice and a bloody good deal as well but you are starting to make me wonder if you are a true Scot..!!!
First loosing money on a number plate and now giving stuff away?

:D
So I stay on topic, those wheels are just what I want for Too!! And as for a true Scot, he just paid the asking price!! What's with that?? JIM

I was all too aware of the bargain Jim, to haggle would have been tantamount to theft.

Hi Lee, thanks for the kind offer. I'm keen to do the job myself but don't have spring compressors but can pick them up of course.

The coilover kit was hopefully something of a bargain too.......

Got this for £180 delivered second hand and shocks are in good nick. The pic above is from the sellers advert when they were new to him.

Looks like you got a real bargain @Lexybhoy with those wheels and tyres, good for you, especially after the annoyance of the registration issue.

Curious though - you said you had to respray the front bumper after filling the number plate holes. I take it that was so that you could off-set the plate a la Alpha Romeo, why?

P.S. feel free to tell me to keep my nose out, I won't be offended.

I just fitted the same type to a E36 vert. I'm a firm believer you get what you pay for so to make these last longer cover the threads and exposed parts in grease. You will get 2-5 years out of these normal use. Your roads up there are very harsh on the materials used on these shocks, The rock salt eats them.

You wont need any spring clamps because the old ones drop out and these will lift in. You will only need them if you take off the old springs. With these there is a trick, wind the adjuster all the way down to the bottom to release the spring tension and remove the top nut so you can fit the top mount. I use an air gun to tighten/remove the top nut, this is because the shaft spins when you tighten it. should have an allen key fitting on the top so you can do it by hand.

The rears are so easy you will laugh. Jack the rear from the diff, sit it on axle stands, undo the lower 18mm bolt on the bottom of the shock and undo the two 13mm nuts on the top thats the shock off. You might have to undo the anti roll bar because the old spring is quite big. be not on the reassembly.

Put the adjuster on the top of the spring and i fit the rubber pad on the bottom. Any other info feel free to give me a shout.

Yes exactly that Chipper. I didn't HAVE to do it of course, but had seen someone's on here with it (maybe Lees) and liked it so thought it would be a bit different. It'll look better once I get a shorter private plate on there. I think.

Fully understood. It wouldn't do for us all to be the same I guess, some individuality has to apply.

My OCD (and the engineer in me) wouldn't allow me to do it though as mine have to be centred to the millimetre and 'spirit-level' straight.

im a bit OCD that way, and also a former engineer, with an engineers eye ;).

But I've had a few Alphas and like the look.

Hi Mini,

I can bring the wheels to you no problem. Probably not till next week though if that's ok.

The wheels are diamond cut finish at present, however as you can see are a bit kerbed and also scratched. I've seen four types of refurb on them,:

Re-cut (Diamond) which is basically running the specialised lathe over them. Whilst that's arguably the best finish, it won't last long on our roads anymore than 1-2 years.

The second finish I've seen was simply powder coated. This was ok, but means if you go all black its crap looking, if you go all silver, then the inside of the wheels have to be silver too so you lose a bit of definition.

The third is painting them yourself, the wheel style lends itself to being rubbed down quite easily, this was what I was planning to do.

The fourth is a higher end type of powder coat which finishes the full wheel very similar to new OEM wheels. To my knowledge only two places in Scotland do it. But it looks really good.

If I was you I would experiment, worse case scenario is you feck them completely and all you've wasted is a wee bit of time.

My choice would be to do away with the front reg plate altogether, it always spoils the look of a car and really, what use are they?

Tony.

Another plus would be - It would screw up those forward facing speed cameras..............Hence why Tony (unfortunately) they won't.
