I can't visualise that Tony.Best easy fix for that is use a 4mm bolt and ni-loc nut on the back.

Graham's been round today and put it all inside the house Mike and put the wheelie bins in the Games room (garage). Plan for the worst and hope for the best. At least nothing will happen till after Sunday to spoil that anyway !You had your garden furniture chucked in the pool yet?
Sorry mate, you may need to drill out the washer which sits on the spring and also the hole in the back plate. Just replace the hold down pin with the nut and bolt. Just tighten it enough to put tension on the spring.I can't visualise that Tony.
Got ya. Thanks!Sorry mate, you may need to drill out the washer which sits on the spring and also the hole in the back plate. Just replace the hold down pin with the nut and bolt. Just tighten it enough to put tension on the spring.

May need a washer on before the nut mate depending how bad the back plate is.Got ya. Thanks!
They can be a Bugger Rob, but you did everything I would've done and got it done. Nearly every old Z's handbrake cables have the outers in half and that's where the problems start.Well that was one nasty b*stard of a job getting the old cable out. Access is awful under the heat shield at the lever end though that came out with moderate persuasion.
The hub end was awful. In the end I took the support plate off and drifted it out from the wheel side. That was very effective.
Stopped for lunch and hopefully all back together between showers this afternoon.
Will post some picks on my project thread.
Not very likely Rob, how long has the original one lasted? A patterned part might not last as long as OEM but will likely outlast your custody of the car. Either way, another job off the list. All you need is some sunshine now . . . . . . .Put an angle grinder over it. It was 2.5mm wider than OEM. I measured it with a micrometer.
I like to do it that way round in case a BMW cable goes back in one day.
Force of habit form restoring old Scalextric cars. I'd never modify the car to fit a repro part in case I or a future owner found an original part. Not very likely Rob, how long has the original one lasted?
