So another day in the Zed shed. Today @Nodzed joined us to offer a hand and also to do the thermostat and water pump on his M.

The front end took some real effort everything was well past it and refused to come off. I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Then there was nothing.

The best bit of kit we have in the zed, makes changing the springs a doddle!

So after all those bits being fitted we have some space back and the list of jobs is now small. Also the Brembo discs that were supplied were 15mm too small. They supplied the 285mm when the 3.0L uses 300mm discs, Doh.....

Zip in the new window
Fit Stereo
Service with filters
Fit new discs with pads

TEST DRIVE :)

A few notes and pictures from Tuesday evening. A couple of jobs, nothing too exciting. Standard service - oil, plugs and filters.

Lee gave the calipers a tidy up before I arrived with a lick of black hammerite. Contrasts nicely against the EBC Yellow Stuff pads.

The rear screen in the car was already showing signs of imminent failure, and a new BMW OEM was ordered. We've had issues sourcing decent quality ones from elsewhere, so for ease and quality it's a pukka one!

One particular thing of note is that the BMW screen has a sticky seal running around it which we've not seen on any of the after market ones. This means that when the canvas is tucked under the edge, it actually sticks in securely and shouldn't come out! The picture below shows the cover on the tape ready to be peeled off.

New screen in. It's going to take a while for it learn how to bend correctly, and I advise Philip starts off using a towel from day one to protect the screen and help it fold.

Wheels down for an extended test drive... All feels nice and smooth, no rattles or bangs (or things falling off). There is a vibration at speed which we think is down to the wheels/tyres. Looks to be some wheel weights missing, and there is a different budget tyre on each corner of varying (low) depths!). Philip is going to change the tyres soon anyway, and the car will need a 3 wheel alignment after all the suspension changes.

We stopped and took a couple of sneaky pics to show off it's new lowered stance. Looks just about right. Lee has some better ones on his camera which he will add later...

So tonight I did the final touches. Fitted the DAB stereo and changed the fuel filter. Then a final drive on my own to make sure shes ready to go out into the wild again.

I'll start with the fuel filter: The 3.0 has a different filter to all the other zeds. It has a fuel regulator on the top. As a rule of thumb you change the filters every 15,000 miles, this one however has been on since the factory =)) Also these filters have two lines in compared to the single line in on the others.
Old one with the date of when it was produced.

Next Philip requested being able to listen to planet rock. So i installed a Pioneer MVH-290DAB this stereo has DAB,Spotify also both types of ports on the front.

The antenna I tucked down low on the passenger side of the windscreen.

That concludes bluebirds build, she's ready for the next 16 years :D
