Well, that's that project finished! Total time estimated at between 10 and 11 hours from wheels up to wheels down
. Two evenings and on Saturday (even had a proper lunch break today when popping out for more parts).
One thing I forgot to mention earlier in the thread was that Filbert is now on 161k miles.
A few more pictures from todays efforts. Lee had already picked up the rear beam from the guys who push out and push in the beam bushes. The guy said these were really hard work as they were really bad.
New Brembo brake discs fitted. These have a nice coating on the hubs so shouldn't rust/discolour quickly. They aren't that much more expensive either.
Shiny new hand brake cables...
New beam bushes close up...
To show the contrast in how a new beam bush act compared the knackered ones earlier in the thread...

Ready to drop off the bench following a sanity check to make sure everything is correct, fitted and tightened.
Dropped to the floor on top of the trolley jack, now need to manouvre and line everything up and raise it.
Raised nice and smoothly despite not lining up on the prop shaft first time. Everything pretty much reconnected, ARBs and exhaust to go!
Hubba hubba... Dem Brembo's!
Wheels on...
Touch down...
...and parked back up after a successful smooth test drive. Honestly wouldn't think this car had 161k miles on it, and it's good for the same again. Probably. All work non warrantied...
Did you read this far? Hello if you did! Lee and I were chatting today about how many more Zeds we want to do over the coming months, and pretty much agreed to perhaps do a few more. Now, please remember that we are not a professional garage service - just a couple of guys who like taking Zeds apart and putting them back together. This also really has
nothing to do with the forum, just a hobby and a way of keeping us out of trouble over the winter. There are costs associated with doing this that need to be covered - lighting, heating, tools and various consumables. Obviously on top of that you need to pay for the parts, or supply them with the car.
Give Lee or myself a shout via PM if you have any questions - Lee does all the organising as it's his garage. Can't promise to look at everyones Zed as each one takes a certain amount of time, and we need the car left for around 2 weeks. This ain't no Kwik Fit drop it in and wait service!
