Another job ticked off the list this week. I fitted a Gap-Tech remote roof opening//closing control which allow remote operation of the soft-top from the ignition key and one-touch operation from the switches on the centre console. This is a big improvement from having to hold the key in the door lock until the roof had finished opening or closing or even holding the switch on the console for the same amount of time.

Really pleased with this addition, also more in the pipeline,.......... watch this space.

Tony.

ps. Gap-Tech do 3 versions of this kit,
1, One touch opening (3 wires for the interior buttons) £49.99
2. RCH - remote control Hood (4 wires, just for remote operation) was £89.99 now £79.99
3. RCH+ BOTH of the above combined (5 wires for the full fat system) was £119.99 now £89.99
I opted for the 3rd choice, may as well do the lot while you're in there.

All plus £4.99 P&P.

Had this on my Z4. Best use on a hot day walking back to the car, click the button and the roof is down when you get to the car. Also confuses people stood near your Zed when you open it from a distance... :ymdevil:

I was under the impression that you had one Ian, absolutely great kit. As I said, the best £95 I've spent so far.

I can open using the key but not one touch. It doesn't close with the key.

Tried the three presses on the key but that doesn't work.

I think you have the basic BMW thing there then Ian. This is much better. I could open mine with the key in the door but wasn't ideal. My old Audi A4 did that with the remote but you only had to hold the button till it started to happen then you could let go.

The Windows on thr LR open from the key. Great when it's hot - you can open them from 50yds away. By the time you get to the car all the hot air has vented.
Gonna have to buy two though. Put one on just mine and I'm a dead man walking.
I presume the E89 needs one - maybe it can be done just by coding. They won't do the closing though. Must have been an issue wrt safety.

Great addition Tony, our Zed 4 could be opened remotely but you had to hold the button down.

This company only do them for the E85 models Ian, I had the same problem. I enquired if they made or intended to make one for the VW Eos, just to keep the peace.;)

That's the original BMW then Dave. I found out on the Z4 Forum that even that system had problems as you had to hold the key button but if you let it off slightly it would stop half way?

There was a guy on eBay offering a re-code service for £50 to give you what was available on your remote but I think £ for £ this is much better.

Yes, then it wouldn't start again. Then had to finish it using the dash buttons.

It does. At least it opens quickly. Fascinating though it is to watch, the E89 is slow...

I never tire of watching the folding roof on Shirl's Eos Ian, but I always end up thinking to myself, "where would you start to design such a complex mechanism?" Absolutely amazing, we had a meet at the Trent Port Pub at Gainsborough in 2014 and all the ladies were far more impressed with Shirl's Eos Black paintwork , cream leather interior and a folding roof, than all the Z's there.

Just part of why I'm enjoying this car mate, so many different things you can do, still picking brains on the other forums though.;)
