Looks like a bob sleigh run, wouldn't even need to hold the steering wheel? Very hard to even imagine that much snow. No wonder he gets cabin fever.:(

@zedonist, would not the nickel be cheaper to do also? As it's one of the steps players will use in chroming? I have the compounds to try myself just waiting for my power source to be repaired. Also, from what I've read any pitting will be magnified during the process so an attempt to eliminate them is important to the overall appearance to the finished product. I've also got a conductive coating for doing non conductive materials I can't wait to try out. Please correct me if I'm wrong. JIM

Yes you need to polish out the pitting to a smooth surface, as the plate just follows the substrate contours it does not have filling properties.

In answer to the whole question Jim, yes it is cheaper, it has a yellowish tint rather than the bluish how of Chrome, if lacquered properly will last just as long as chrome plate, but like any plating the devil is in the preparation, poor preparation will see the nickel layer flake off, leaving the copper flash underneath, it's the same on chrome plating, the nickel flakes not the chrome, as the chrome is a very thin layer.

I just think the nickel finish is nicer in appearance.

Thanks, I agree the polished nickel looks richer to me. I had the plumbing fixtures for an antique sink re plated in nickel when my brother worked for the railway and got them done at no cost, even though I did send in a booze bottle for the guys. Had more compliments on those after I polished them than any chrome product I could have used. As I said before I've found I love polishing metals especially stainless car Trim from old cars and repairing them to good as new condition. Haven't tried doing bumpers yet. But I'm still on this side of the grass so who knows! JIM
