Picked up WG10 SUX after its annual service and MOT today - it had the full monty so 7 litres of oil, new air, oil and pollen filters, break fluid refresh and a new set of plugs later it drives amazing; well the same as before really.

Obviously been enjoying it to much recently because the only MOT advisory was for the rear tyres - so that's a job for next week :bashhead:

It was that hot on the way home I had to have the aircon on full blast with the top down ;)

I have a sneaky feeling that my rear runflats may be ready for replacement well before the fronts too. Strange?

The Carly WiFi adapter came with the car when I bought it so I thought I'd pay the annual subscription and give it a go.
First thing I did was code out the audible beep when locking the car which for me was annoying - instead I coded the folding mirrors on lock which I use as a visual check when walking away to make sure I've locked it.
Then I coded the digital speedo which I always have on now rather than the temp display or one of the other options like MPG or miles in tank.
Finally after a couple of failed attempts I coded the indicators to blink three times on a short press of the stalk rather than the previous once.
Cant think of anything else I want to do so I doubt I will be renewing the subscription especially when I also have an OBD reader

Have you coded the roof to open on the fob if it doesn't already?

Now it's funny you ask that because it did do when I first picked it up but now it just stops at lowering the windows.
I had been toying with the idea of getting a SmartTop adapter so had thought no more about it.
However, after trying it again yesterday I got in this morning for a quick Bank Holiday run out to the Peaks, before the traffic got to bad, and was faced with the CC-ID 415 error code. I don't have iDrive but I'm sure this shows up as the excessive discharge warning.
So it looks like I need a new battery which will obviously need coding :bashhead:

Isn't it a pain in the rear that everything needs coding. I mean what intelligence is there in a battery that the onboard computer needs to be told about it.

What next? Wiper blades? Or "I topped up my washer bottle and the water needs coding?

If I put girlfriend v2 in the passenger seat will the computer need to know about it?

Z3 isn't quite as bad as z4 in that regard but, I wonder if I could rip the computer out of my z3. Drop an 80's v8 into the engine bay and to hell with it all.

I'm Duncodin.

The smart top adapter was stupid money last I looked, not worth being able to close on the fob, you can close the top with the key in the door lock.

As for the discharge, was the car stood for a while? they will discharge if stood as the car never totally goes to sleep and was designed to be a daily driver, not a weekend pleasure car which we mostly now use them for, the battery may not need replacing and you may still get this code if stood for long periods with a new battery, I have a C-Tec connected when not in use for this reason. I have the C-Tec adaptor lead permanently connected under the bonnet so its just a plug and go system.

Don't forget you should always charge from the under bonnet terminals not directly to the battery terminals so the charge goes through the IBS (intelligent battery sensor) which in turn is monitored by the DME. The IBS monitors the battery every 14 seconds regardless of whether the car is being used or not. Not charging through the under bonnet terminals can cause premature battery failure.

The Smart Top module does so much more than open/close the roof from the remote. Agreed it isn’t cheap but I have yet to find someone who has say they wish they hadn’t. When I first bought the one for my E85 I wondered if it was money well spent but soon realised it was. Have a chat with Mick Sykes, and yes I know he bought 2nd hand, but they do come up for sale.

I had one on the Alpina and that's all it did, but it was cheap, not so for the e89 circa £300. Plus everything it does for the e89 (other than close the roof on the fob) the e89 can be coded to do without it so long as the necessary packs are installed, if not the Smart Top wont make any difference, so I'm not sure where you are coming from Tony TBH. I'm not saying don't get one just asking is it worth it?

Can you code the windows to lower/raise from the fob? Can you make the buttons in the cabin operate with a single touch? Can you regulate the speed at which the roof operates, up to 40kph (if you want to). Can you turn it all off with a simple operation for service/valet. Not every car has the comfort pack which makes most things possible, mine doesn’t
As for closing from the key in door, ok you can, and if it’s raining you stand there getting wet .
And I’m not saying it’s value for money for everyone, but for me I think it is.;)

Can you code the windows to lower/raise from the fob? - YES and the roof to lower.
Can you make the buttons in the cabin operate with a single touch? - May have to give you that one, I like that, that's the only thing I would buy it for if it was cheaper.
Can you regulate the speed at which the roof operates, up to 40kph - YES but pre 2012 cars do not have the strengthened roof mechanism to open at 40kph I think BMW recommend 19kph max for pre 2012, mine is set to the lower speed.
Can you turn it all off with a simple operation for service/valet. - No idea and is that really worth it? No one services my car other than me (same for you I think)

Mine hasn't comfort pack either but I can do the above (so could you)
And from my understanding if the car doesn't have comfort pack then the Smart top module still wont do those things the comfort pack will do 🤷‍♂️ Just saying ;)

I set mine at 13mph ((20 kph) for that reason. It can’t turn my mirrors in because I have manual mirrors. If/when I trade or sell the car I can put it back to manual in 10 minutes and sell it on. And like I said it does much more than operate the roof from the fob. I don’t own a Carly or pay yearly subs which make my module half the price by my reckoning. I wouldn’t use a Carly for anything else either it’s another expensive toy IMHO.

Tony.

New tyre day has finally arrived (rears only required ;)) so it's off with the old and on with the new - sticking with the MPS4S 255/35/19 so it's no change. The tyre fitter told me to wait until September to take advantage of the Michelin promotion so I can claim £20 a tyre back - not a massive saving but at least it's a few beer tokens

Another tyre fitter who doesn't bother to use the red dots.
