Blimey Mike, that is quite a transformation. It looks stunning. I can wait to see it in the flesh as it were.
I only hope it won't be as it was, when you get to see it, Richard. Sandy's going to walk in front all the time with a large mattress and a red flag :-ss

Are you going to want one of These too??
You're probably right, Snoops. It looks like we are getting ready for the unveiling ceremony!!! It's actually 'one sheet does all' (well two actually, and even that's not long enough, hence the exposed bottom :D

Wondering how are you getting on with your project, Dave :-h
Hoping all is Ok :ympeace:

Wow Dave! wish mine would go together that fast, Summers almost gone. Seriously though did you have any trouble getting the gaps correct and making the panels line up properly? I seem to struggle when it come to that, perhaps i'm too much of a perfectionist. :))

I've done this sort of thing before, so I've remembered some top tips.

Bolt on every panel loosely enough to allow movement, but tight enough to keep it still.

When all the panels are on the car, adjust the gaps using the longest panel that hasn't been removed as the datum (I used the doors).

Everything went well except putting on the LHR wing - now I've got a nice scratch on the newly painted sill :( .

Jobs to do:

1) tighten all the panel bolts,
2) test the electrics,
3) prime the engine with oil,
4) start engine and bring coolant to correct level (I did some work on the cooling system over the winter),
5) refit the wheel arch liners and undertray,
6) test drive and shakedown.

Hi Guys :-h

Just a few pics of the sills in situ #:-s

Both the horns are in really bad condition, so had to buy new ones 8-|

Can you see the little yellow connector taped up to the horn lead, does anyone know what this is for?

Can anybody tell me what the function of this silver disc is, set into the plastic trim behind the front bumper,
have taken a pic of both sides

Work is progessing slowly as I keep finding parts that need replacing $-)

if the silver disk is plugged in like the second picture it might be a burst disk for the airbag(S). Might be way off but seems logical.

Not sure what the bits are mike.

The panels can be a bit of a challenge to line up.

Just a few more pics to update you guys on the progress with Mora :ympeace:

Two disasters that have happened today, firstly I broke a stud trying to undo a PLASTIC nut, whilst installing the front nearside plastic wheel arch X(
secondly, I think I blew a fuse when I disconnected the horns, as none of the dashboard lights work now when I turn the key :((

The sills finally in place :-bd

My beautiful bonnet now covered in dust 8-|

An old horn ;)

And now a new horn :ymapplause:

The old horns were very badly corroded, it looks like some parts on a BMW weren't made to last 8-|

Good work mike,

those plastic nuts break quite easily under the wheel arches.

I don't know why they used them.

There are enough bolts and screws to hold it.

It was very indistinct, not so much a beep beep, more a strangulated gurgle. 8-| ;)

Mike, from that 2nd pic just watch the corrosion on the power steering cooler they tend to go where the tabs are welded onto the tube for mounting and are well known for breaking off. Give these brackets a coat of smooth hamerite if you get chance it will buy you some more time as the coolers are around £50 to buy.

Looking good there :-bd Wow that horn was well and truly corroded, it's a wonder you get any kind of noise out of it.

How long now before you can get the wheels on and get it out of the garage?
:coolsteer)
I know what you mean about the dusty bonnet, that's why I want a cover for mine dust comes under our garage door all over Zippy when I've cleaned him.
