What you need is a Butt Strut.According to Mike whose car has a full compliment of Strong Strut products for the Z3, the Butt Strut makes the largest single improvement by a mile.
I find this unlikely. The butt strut doesnt actually do anything. Placebo mod IMHO.

hmm...it must reduce the moment surly...but then again when i think about where its attached seems already well supported

No evidence at all the studs move significantly. If they do they are nicely anchored to the sills via a small bracket. The hole in the bracket doesnt get elongated so I dont think there is any movement of the stud. Also if you were to try support the bottom of the studs why on earth tie them together. If they move they would do so as a pair and tying them together is pointless. Maybe I have missed the point of the butt strut...
A far better mod is fitting solid subframe bushes. They do offer a noteable improvement in rear suspension stability.

Or fit the splints to the OEM bushes to make them solid ;-)

Yes indeed! Or fill the cavities in the bushes with epoxy. Changing the bushes is hard work. Making the standard bush stiffer is almost as good.

Have a look on the Z3mcoupe forum technical section where there is a recent how to on the splints. I got a set from the USA last year but not fitted them yet.
I have a butt strut but not fitted it as previous 2 owners removed it due to ground clearance issues. The splints are supposed to be more effective and don't affect ground clearance.

It would be useful to hear from someone who has experience of driving with and without a Butt Strut fitted. :ymbringiton:

As far as I can make out, fitting a Butt Strut is like fitting the lid on an inverted tin where the base is the floor and the sides are the sub-frame mounting studs.

My zed came with a Butt Strut fitted and I have no complaints about the handling, but then I make no claims of driving on the limit,as I wouldn't attempt that on public roads. 8-|

Frank do you still get the "tilt" when going round the corners....(when you push it in to the corner you feel the suspension go down then a definite tilt from the rear) ?

I only get 'Tilt' when I've had a few too many. The car doesn't have any handling anomolies now the tyres are sorted. :coolsteer)
Then again I'm knocking on a bit and rarely drive at more than 30mph. :ymdevil:

Save your money and put it towards H&R anti roll bars..
They will provide more of a differents on handling than any butt strutt..

ok here goes...on every Zed iv drove when pushed in to a corner you can feel the suspension lower as you go through the corner....normal movement....but as you push it harder there is a tilt/lean as tho something moves not down but across in my mind its the chassis moving..tilt....always found it unsettling if im pushing on :-s

Swamper I know exactly what you mean and both my M's did this, even after h&r coilies which did reduce it somewhat, the butt strut does seem to have tightened things up back there but I have every intention of upgrading to h&r arbs, poly bush and possibly get the strong strut body brace. I love our cars and their character but the chassis is in need of some rigidity
