I've seen things like this before on eBay but I've always been unsure on how you would wire these up?

I like that, where did you take the power supply from?

I'll get mine done and see how easy and quick it is Faheem. Then we'll see.;) I've seen some tidy looking items at the local Walmart.

Nice solution. Is the cig lighter circuit switched or permanently live (like in the E85)?
If it's always on, you're likely to have an additional drain on your battery that may cause you problems if your car isn't used for a few days. If it's switched should be no problem.
Disconnecting the led will help of course but you've got a circuit dropping 12V to 5V that will always be drawing some current even if it doesn't have anything connected.

The lighter socket is always on, will it still draw power when not being used ane the blue lights removed?

those switching dc-down adapters takes very little power when not in use, matter of 5-10 milliAmp i think. Of course depends on implementation, but take it 1amp when has load, 1-5% when no load should it be.

Normally it shouldn't be a problem. You're adding a significant percentage to your static drain at 10mA. It all adds up over time if you're leaving you car for days and weeks at a time.
But, accidentally leave something plugged in..... Its so easy to do. :(

I bought these two items to enable relatively easy figment of a pair of USB charging ports. The plug in the left hand packet holds a socket to plug the charger into. This in turn will be connected to an ignition fed live fuse (same as my dash cam). The USB port block will be mounted at some convenient point in the cabin.

These parts come to $19.50 so not a bank breaker.
