i put 2 runflat contis on the front....it went from no tramlining to following every crack in the road...so for me the tyres are the main culprits for causing this

Zelda was tramlining badly with fairly new Avon ZV5 tyres on the back and half worn Michelin Pilots on the front. Changed the fronts to Avon ZV5s............ Like driving a new car. No tramlining now.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, particularly tony-t, we too thought we had bought a "pup".
The car wasn't too bad on the initial drive but has become worse or we are just more aware of it. We thought there was
something seriously wrong with the car despite the £800 service, new bushes and MOT and assurances from the
BMW specialist garage. Anyway, thanks to your advice we have been looking at the tyres and there are two different kinds on the
front so will buy two new ones and see how it goes then. So thank you all for your suggestions.
Hi Stewart,
More likely between time when you first bought the car and when you made the relaxed drive (as owner) the temp changed and so did the pressure. Having two different tyre models on the front axle, related with inappropriate pressure can make the Z3 tramlining dramatically!
So your decision to change the front tyres is perfect. As our friends just reminded: after replacing the tyres, check geometry and air pressure. You can play with the air pressure in a margin of not more than -0.2+0.2 at. Always same for the both tyres!
And do not give up Z3 for this inconvenient:stop: !!! It's minor to the joy you will have back from this car!:)

That's strange it was the Avon's that I took off the car to put Falken's on and it stop tram lining

As said above Falken's are good at eradicating this although think the ones available now are 914's with similar tread pattern.
I have just looked and my Triumph has the Falken 912's the Z3 has the 914's
