Simply decided to try out an AEM dry high-flow filter, after watching some YT comparisons that measured it to be the highest flowing panel filter.
I have to report that I am surprised of how good it felt driving to work this morning (I assume the sticker gives me +5HP 😂)

By the way I also opened up the blocked extra airway that our stock headlight air duct has, and leads to behind the fog light. I plan on making a 3D printed cover that allows some fresh air in from that side cover without removing the fog light.

At least an extra 5hp.

Was debating this exact mod. Just bought a cold air intake and thought itd be good to open up the fog light and try to fabricate some sort of air scoop to allow some fresh air into this area.

Would be good to know what you come up with for a mod.

It's a bit of a risk though, as the officer could be on a particularly bad mood… 😉
I think most officers have more to worry about than a set of black plates, I'll take my chances

I will let you know once I finish my 3D model and test it out 😁

I see you got a GruppeM and looks very nice ! I was contemplating for a long time about getting this, and perhaps I will in the future.
If you fit it can you upload a video so I can hear how it sounds? Also, check the intake temperature, I am curious to see if it will run any hotter than the stock airbox (I am at 52C when not moving).

Its from an e39 m5 so took a bit of a gamble on it second hand. Might take some fettling to fit. Then again it might not fit at all.

Z3 2.8i specific Gruppe M intakes are impossible to find. They don't even list them on their own website. New £800 and the Simota intakes are around £550 new and also hard to find used.

Will keep you posted. Will defo put a video up of the 'hoover' in action.

Yes, they do seem to be quite hard to find and crazy priced! But I am almost 💯 sure that a 3.0i from here https://www.gruppemusa.com/bmw-z3-2000-2003-e36-3.0l-carbon-fiber-ram-air-intake-system/p2435 fits all M54 engines (at least it will not be a huge problem besides shipping)

Also, my local specialist is more pro-BMC carbon intakes and they do make special kits for Z3s

I assume you are buying from Schmiedmann?

There are kits for the 3.0i. I had seen before in my research but the cost is eye watering for a filter, carbon shroud and a mounting bracket.

I'm running an m52b28 so I'm not sure the MAF diameter is the same. Either way, I'll be needing a reducer pipe from 90mm to 80mm, potentially an angled reducer to make this work.

I will defo post in my progress thread when it's on/functioning. I won't have the intake till next week at the earliest as my buddy picked it up for me in Manchester and will be driven up to me in Scotland via an exchange at the Lake District Run 2023.

Yes, I am buying from Schmiedmann mainly as it is the only thing in Denmark  Except for some exotic products like Turner motorsport underdrive pulleys, DISA reinforcement which I have imported.

Yeah keep us updated on your progress

Speaking of @Scooblitz "salvaged" GruppeM, is there any marketplace or online scrap yard in UK/EU that you find cool stuff for Z3s? (probably not the correct place to ask this info but I didn't know in which thread ). My rocker panels are rusty and I don't know if it is fixable or should be replaced.

Picked up a pair of very clean door cards with non broken handles off eBay for a bargain price.. noticed they have two sets of speakers in them.. I assume it’s from a car with the HK upgrade? It’s got two sets of wires, guess the standard loom wont have two sets of connectors?

Let me know your technique for getting the original grills out.

Had a black set sitting for 2 years.

Grab the grilles with your fingers and pull.

Pretty much as Tony says.i used a small screwdriver and pressed the clips from the inside. At the same time teasing it out from the front. I will put a photo on so it looks more obvious. I got them out undamaged that way.
