The problem with batteries is you simply don't know if cheap is good - until its too late.
On the basis that I don't see selling anytime soon, then something that will hopefully last as long as the original seems to make sense from a cost perspective. Am sure its a case of you get what you pay for. Buy cheap - buy twice and all that....

They were replacing them more often than I had to recharge mine if I had left the car standing for a while.

It's all about perspective - one of those difficult questions. Do you spend £40 more now to save a further £60 or more in five years and have less hassle as well.
£40 in the bank will be worth far less then. £40 on the lottery is a much better bet. £40 on fuel is an extra day's fun out on the roads (if you have the time like the mints

I guess my opinion is coloured from work Gary. Every few days I see avoidable faults because a generator failed to start despite being well maintained. 90% of those are battery faults after years of using cheaper replacements.
A car sat on the drive that won't start means there's two or three other cars sat behind it that are stranded. Bad news at 6am.
With that many cars pull a battery from one of them and head off to work @ Redline!! JIM
Just priced a bosch up on ECP with a 3 year warranty. With the code WKD52 its £98. Pretty good i'd say. Can get their cheap own brand with the code for £25.
I have used RAC batteries for all of my cars, around £100 with 5 years guarantee, fitted at home. No issues and hassle free if one fails.

Simple cock-up by a product manager I suspect but frustrating none the less.
I just noticed that the original battery quotes 80Ah but only 640CCA. While its a higher Ah rating its much less than the new batteries on the CCA.
Excellent service from the RAC. The guy bought the battery that I ordered but while it was quoted as a compatible physical fit, it was in fact too short to sit in the tray and be properly clamped. Instead I got an RAC branded Varta battery of higher capacity (80Ah and 800CCA which is way higher than the 640CCA that was originally fitted) for the same price (£144 fitted - instead of £149 - thats with £30 fitting for free as a member) and 5 year warranty. Fabulous service and I don't think I could have got a similar spec'd battery any cheaper.
Even if you're looking for cheaper batteries, I'd suggest anyone look at the RAC prices, especially if you're a member.

This happened to me once, the RAC fitted an upgraded battery for the same price. Not sure the connection between the website and the van is perfect

mmmm my z3 1.9 came with a 40AH 380CCA battery fitted ( witha fitted on date of 16/04/15 ) and suprisingly has been fine - although i think will replace it soon before i take it on a 2 week holiday
It will be fine I would have thought especially if it's used regularly or garaged. Cranking a 3L 6 pot after a cold night when it's been stood for a week needs a little extra umph!
