Definitely disconnect your battery ( negative side) . Have some heat shrink tubing to slide on before joining and stagger the joint over a few inches otherwise you will end up with a large bulge of the cable in one place.

Tony.

ps. This may be obvious so no offence if you're aware.;)

Agree with Tony but you may wish to consider putting some new wiring in the `bendy' area and rejointing in the boot and boot lid. I did this on mine - you double the number of joints but they are away from the stress area.

Just pulled back the cover from the 'loom of doom', nearly all the wires have broken, well on the positive side I don't need to take the door card off. Would I be right in thinking I should disconnect the battery before I start trying to sort this out?
Glad you found the problem :)

Thanks Guys your help is appreciated and noted. I think I will re-route the wiring not using the route that the manufacturer did. I know it might not look as good but I would rather do the job once. Looked at an old thread on .org. I will let you know how I get on.

Regards Jim

This sounds like my problem i can unlock remotely BUT not lock remotely. I lock with the key doors and boot lock.

Hi Guys

Success, the loom of doom has been re-routed and repaired. When I inspected it 7 of the 9 wires had broken. I pulled back as much of the sleeve as I could and found further damage to the wire covering, put heat shrink on that.

Loom re-routed. Heat shrink applied to further damaged area

Wires soldered

Tested and heat shrink applied

Cover replaced and more insulating tape applied. I then punched a small hole in the underside of the lower rubber cover and used a plastic tie to secure the loom.

Regards Jim

Top work Jim, it's awesome to see someone who can solder and repair wiring problems correctly. None of that scotch lock rubbish! Looks like that repair should be good for another 15+ years

Gaz Thanks in all fairness there was two of us, but I am hopeful that it will last another 15 years. The car has her 15th birthday next month and I have had her 11 years and there was an immense amount of satisfaction when we had finished.

Regards

Jim
