I've a slight rust problem, the worst being under the bonnet. How bad is this?

I've hit it with a hammer and screwdriver fairly hard and it didn't go through.

Hoow is it looking for MOT?

Unless it is within 30cm of brakes, steering, suspension or seat belt mounting points it isn't in what is called a prescribed area. That doesn't look to me as though it would fulfil that criteria, therefore not a testable item.

Also remember that testing for excessive corrosion, as far as the test goes, consists of " light finger and thumb pressure" only and tapping and "light" scraping with the corrosion assessment tool. Which is a piece of alloy as thick as your little finger with a plastic hammer head of equal size.

Tony.

ps you can see the M.O.T. Testers manual online for free. It's an interesting read too.

The B800 airbag reset tool arrived today, so whipped it out (the B800 ;)) plugged it in, turned on the ignition, pressed a button...

And....

SUCCESS.

If your airbag light it is on this is the tool for the job.

The car goes in for the Accelerator cable fitting tomorrow, I'm going to get them to fix the grinding brake issue and may even take the plunge and ask about the MOT too.

Hoover the roof first, or give it a good going over with a hand brush. I then wash my roof a couple of times rinsing thoroughly each time and then make sure it's dry before applying the proofer. Try not to overspray the proofer on to the windows and body panels, if you are clumsy you may want to cover the bits of your car closest to the hood!

Worked OK for me the last 5 or so years.
