Started with a 2006 Z4, 2.0i, p/ex that for a 1999 Z3 2.8i 1 owner and just 25k miles. Significant other has just bought a 2009 E89 2.3i auto, again 1 owner from new with only 20k.

The Z3 is the garage queen, we will do less than 1k miles per annum. The E89 is a lovely car to drive, my missus does about 4K per annum.

We have a 2010 523i touring which is the work horse. Picked it up almost a year ago, 1 owner with 32k miles, it now has 58k

Had two Z4 2.0i Sport with m sport extras. Silver N Black, both lovely cars with plenty of m sport bling.

I have always liked the classic styling of the Z3 so when a members car came up I grabbed the opportunity.

more composed ride in the Z3 most likely the sport suspension in the Z4 had a lot to do with it:thumbsup::thumbsup:

would have kept the Sapphire Black Z4 but finances wouldn’t permit.

cheers, hope we’re all keeping safe.

All of the above were/are roadsters.

Most unengaging was Z4M, great driving car but nothing to tinker with, add, personalise.

Most raw and uncouth are the Z3's, so are more fun.

Some interesting views here.
I'm looking into a fleet shuffle and consolidating the Z3 1.9 M44 and the Porsche 996 into either a Z3 3.0 or Z4 3.0.

Yes, ‘98’ Z3, 1.9 to a ‘04’ Z4, 3.0. Both manuals 5 speed and 6 speed. The 5 speed in the Z3 is a nicer transmission IMO.

Had the Z3 for 9 years, put 60K on it, bought the Z4 in February of this year. Sold the Z3, new owner picking it up today.

Love both cars but the Z3 was showing its age cosmetically. And I wanted more HP.

Have read the whole thread and have some of the same opinions as others. I think the Z3 is better looking but the Z4 is growing on me considerably in the looks department. Love the power of the 3.0 vs the 1.9.

One post used the same word that I use when asked about the 4 vs the 3...”The Z4 is more refined “ and I like that. I’ll miss the Z3...but not too much.

I think a lot depends on what you want the car for, drive, work on, investment etc? I can see someone paying a lot for a very low mileage Z3 3.0 or M and just storing it. If you drive it a lot it would just run down the value. A cheap car is great if you want to spend your time working/restoring it, but you won't really increase it's value much.If you just want a decent sportscar to drive and enjoy(maintain of course) buy according to a sensible price. At the moment you can buy a better Z4 than Z3 at a sensible price. Z3 looks better, but the Z4 is a better sportscar.BMW aren't stupid, they wouldn't make a new sportscar worse than it's predesessor . Body style is subjective.

My Z4 2.0i drove much better than my Z3 does, but the Z3 is soooo good to look at. And, that straight 6...
