Hi All

A couple of weeks ago I was sitting in my front room when I heard this very loud snapping banging sound. Both front springs on my E85 had snapped at the same time stationary !

I order some new springs (kYB) from AutoDoc for my 2005 E85 but they do not fit. The lower spring seat/perch on my front shocks is an oval/pear shape but the springs they sent are round at both ends. I cannot find any springs with this oval/pear shape end. All the ones I have found say they will fit a Z4 E85 2.2 but they do not have the oval/pear shape end.

Can anyone point me in the right direction of some front springs with an oval/pear shape at one end and round at the other.

Thanks Neil.

Do you have any photos of both.
Will the aftermarket ones definitely not fit as sometimes the aftermarket springs are re profiled and are different z3 aftermarket rear springs look nothing like the original ones .

Also worth bearing in mind Z4 springs don’t sit on the rubber pearch how you would think, they sit about 2/3” back from the stop at this point you also see the natural shape of the spring sit snug round the base, they’re only pear shaped very slightly one end.

This is amazing, I have been working on cars for 57 years and the spring and shocks are doing my head in, a simple job. Never come across springs that don't seat in the standard place. Now I have another problem on compressing the springs to fit, they only have 2 coils to attach compressors which is not enough to fit top mounts. Any suggestions. Pictures attached where I can get spring to seat on bottom perch and another showing how far springs have to be compressed to fit.

Lee, thanks for the offer, I live in Stokenchurch J5 M40 but I have ordered some spring compressors for the job.

Regards Neil.
