Lewis Hamilton top in Brazilian Grand Prix second practice

Lewis Hamilton topped both Friday practice sessions at the start of a Brazilian Grand Prix weekend that is critical to his title hopes.
Hamilton was 0.03 seconds quicker than Rosberg over one flying lap and also had a clear advantage on longer runs.
The Mercedes duo's closest rivals at Interlagos were the Williams pair of Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa.
If Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg wins on Sunday, the German will become champion for the first time.

Raikkonen and Toro Rosso's Carlos Sainz have been called to see the stewards after an on-track incident during the session.

They were seen driving slowly alongside each other, perhaps because one felt the other had blocked him, before Raikkonen accelerated around the outside of Sainz and then cutting across him to enter the pits at the end of the lap.

Q1 eliminations
Posted at 17:21

OUT: 17 Button; 18 Magnussen; 19 Wehrlein; 20 Ocon; 21 Ericsson; 22 Nasr

Jenson Button is told by his team he will start in P17.

"Yeah we've definitely sorted those problems out, haven't we?" comes the heavily Ironic reply from the cockpit.

Not a happy chap.

The Haas drivers have come from nowhere and harpooned the Williams drivers. Neither make the top 10.

Can Hamilton come from behind to pip the German or will Rosberg be celebrating his maiden drivers' crown?

F1 points breakdown
1st:
25 points
2nd: 18 points
3rd: 15 points
4th: 12 points
5th: 10 points
6th: 8 points
7th: 6 points
8th: 4 points
9th: 2 points
10th: 1 point

Even if Hamilton wins the last two races, Rosberg only needs to finish second and third to be sure of the title.
A retirement for Hamilton between now and the end of the season would almost certainly be the end of his hopes.

Someone give that man a hug
Posted at 15:49

It's Felipe Massa's last home GP today before retiring, and the two-time Interlagos winner is understandably emotional at the prospect.

His Williams team has just posted this picture of him wiping away a tear during an interview with Brazilian TV.

I might be needing a tissue myself actually...

Lewis Hamilton has raced at 25 different grand prix events - and has won at 20 of them.

Brazil is one of the five races to elude him so far, along with the European GP (seven attempts), South Korean (four), Indian (three) and French (two).

'Visibility was impossible'
British driver Jolyon Palmer's race is over and he tells BBC Radio 5 live: "We had some damage after the restart when Kimi lost it. Kvyat could not see me and we had a touch and that was it. It is really slippy coming up the hill at turn 12. On the full wets it was not too bad, but with the intermediates, no.

"From where I was, the visibility was impossible, you just can't see anything. It is bad, but it is just the standing water. Kimi lost it on full wets in a straight line."

Asked about signing a new deal that keeps him with Renault next year, Palmer adds: "I'm really happy about that, we've been doing well. Yesterday it was a solid job and it was just a shame for today."
