it's not just you, even watching the Free Practice sessions, I just thought from the in car footage, the speed combined with all the blind corners was unnerving. In the race, even more so, particularly when following another car.
I only watched the highlights on 4 and I found myself unsure if I enjoyed it at the end, regardless of the controversy.
I'll admit I want Max to win, not because I'm a fan, but because I'm tired of the Mercedes technical domination and Toto's excessive control in the sport. But it just feels like Max is driving in desperation, to make up for a technical disadvantage, he's taking chances because he has to, not because he wants to. A weekend of identical cars on an unknown circuit would be really interesting. Actually, I just want someone else to win, any one will do!
The braking incident? Well, the stewards found "the driver of Car 33 was predominantly at fault", predominantly, not solely. I understand Max's logic and method, if Lewis had been aware the place swap was imminent, he'd have been expecting something and it wouldn't have happened. The real failure was in Lewis not receiving comms and who's fault that was, is a different argument. 10 seconds made no difference to the result. Stewards just had to be seen to do something. The question is, if Lewis had been aware of what Max was doing, would he have braked as well, to avoid passing and losing the DRS?
Safety cars and Red flags add unnecessary risk to the race itself, bunching up the pack and restarts so often cause issues and change the outcome of the race, particularly on a circuit like this, as this weekend demonstrated.
But, roll on next week!
