I’ve picked up two switches from Andy (spurs) and will connect them using all the existing harness as I did on the 1.9.
Just a mod under the seat to the black connector. (Unless I can find a mating part with wires in it.)
I don't remember having hog rings on my 1.9, I think there were just tabs.
I bought my previous ones from ebay but I paid more :arghh:.......have to do a bit more research !!

Hope you didn't partake of t-tonys lubricant!! I share the pain; took out a £300 patio door glass the other day with a stone thrown up by my lawnmower.
Sh1t happens.

No ‘lubricant’ just sh*t driving on my part!!!
No excuses….. just shunted the car in front

Managed to get the bonnet open….doesn’t look too bad around the front end internally. Other than headlight, fog light. bumper and bonnet, can’t see anything else at the moment . But will strip if down tomorrow sometime and see

With the 1.9 on the mend, did a bit on the 2.8 this morning....

cleaning bolts !!!!!! But it has to be done.

I thought I would trace where the vacuum line went as I have removed the smog filter. So need to remove the cover....
First problem....it was loose and it turned out that the rubber mounting had split....so with a bit of gorilla glue.....got it reassembled and repaired.

I can feel where it is attached, so will leave it connected for now until I can get a blanking cap to push on.

And the first part in the reassembly has been fitted today..........

The smog filter blanking plate....as supplied by Tony. ( I know its only small bit, but its a start !!!!! =))

After that I cleaned the exhaust manifold as the new gaskets are due on wednesday, and that something else that could be assembled

I would have put all the new studs in but they didnt seem to want to fit.......
I think its a tolerance clash....
The new ones are all measuring...

And the old ones are

Might need to get an M7 tap and clean the threads in the head

Thats the good thing about a project.......you can just put the tools down, shut the door and leave it ........:drinks:

Nothing been done on the car, but just sorting out bits today.
The front door bell was doing overtime this morning.
A parcel from Autodoc....and the manifold gaskets turned up. They are Febi ones and good quality and much cheaper than anywhere else. Delivery was about 8 days from Germany.
Then the postman rang the bell as he had a replacement 46mm socket. (6 point) I had returned the 12 point one received last week as not what I wanted and not as described in the advert.

Then my local ‘metal recycler’ knocked to confirm it was ok to take the pile of scrap in the front garden. Saves me having to book a slot at the dump to get rid of it........he’ll be getting a slam plate and a bonnet or two soon !,,,,

Then after checking all the new manifold studs, I decided to return them, as not happy with the quality. ( the ends of each stud just not finished that good)
The last thing I want to do is take a chance of damaging the threads in the head.....so may get the BMW ones......unless my mate gets his lathe soon

Could you not just run a thread cleaner down the studs and fit new nuts Malc? How many snapped?

None snapped , but they were in a terrible condition. I have since tried to remove the nuts but two studs twisted… so probably best to replace the lot

Probably so mate. I was surprised to see that they’re 7mm diameter too.

Simca used to use quite a lot of those but biggest majority of manufacturers are 8mm.
