Spent the morning in the garage… lots of good intentions but only got a few bits sorted.

Started by washing all the wheel arch liners. Rear ones originals front ones from Andy ( Spurs) Once cleaned, using RealOEM sorted out the fixings …. Had some of them so assembled what I could…

Unfortunately, one body nut on the rear arches … I didn’t have … or the bloody screws that hold them in :banghead: . So phoned the local Stealer and ordered them… might as well use the correct ones !!

So couldn’t progress with that….. so on to the doors that both have the ‘Aero’ effect …. Or Rust Bubbles on the top edge.
Filler now gone off…. After about a week I suppose it should have:whistle:….So bit a fine wet’n’dry and me spitting on it=)), got the 4 areas nice and smooth… happy with that ….so primer, top coat and clear lacquer required….. Off to Halfords !!!:arghh:
I warmed up the garage with the afterburner and sprayed the primer…..

No more bubbles…. Just hope I can get the finish to match….

Onwards and sideways…. =))

Found a small ‘dink’ on the rear wing so got it up to the same stage as the others … might as well do all the spraying in one go.
Waiting for a warm , wind free day though.

Went delving into the unknown this morning as never worked on a six pot engine… so all new to me
Worked out how to unclip the HT plugs… so did all those, pulled up the coils…. Some seemed looser than others, but dont know how they are meant to be so they may be ok:whistle:
The Plugs though, was a different story 1, 5 and 6 … about what I expected ….4 was just about finger tight , but 2 and 3 were a nightmare…. Really tight on the whole length of the thread as they were undone.
Plugs dont look that brilliant so will get 6 new ones.

This was to remind me how it goes:whistle:

I was going to turn the engine over but a mate turned up and got sidetracked but in a good way

Two years ago when I got the heap… sorry ,I mean car!! The wing mirrors were basically f****d…. So once my mate had fixed up his new workshop in his garden shed… we looked at what could be done.
And He has come up with the answer….
A stainless steel pin with a washer and a circlip to replace that ‘usually rusty bit of seized crap’, that holds it together.

The parts!!

And yes you have to compress that spring!!!
But with the new ACME fitting tool ..’simples’

Hopefully it’s less than £100 a mirror! I may be able to salvage a spare from mine.

Spent most of the day in working in the garden as trying to make it easier to maintain !!!

But was thinking that I have been neglecting the 1.9 so I will do a few of the advisories over the next week or so…

Not an advisory , but something I have been meaning to do …. The aerial grommet.
933C4F84-41F9-4AFA-8A67-408893ECDD1D.jpeg

surprisingly not leaking… but cracked and sealant all round it ( like it when I got the car)
DEF0DB85-42F6-4B41-8595-879C95A6DBFC.jpeg

Bit of spannering in the boot and aerial removed. And grommet just fell out

So a nice ring if sealant to remove!
E8FD9A90-4C10-454F-A993-3671D2F008B0.jpeg

Bit of meths and a soft cloth and it cane off.

Then sprayed the grommet with silicon and it went in really easily
D0CDA148-BCFC-481C-B0EF-C86DAA80D528.jpeg

Same thing on the aerial and pushed it in from the boot and again no problem.
BEC80A01-FE2B-4667-911E-F83A4DBB040C.jpeg

Just a case of refitting all the stuff in the boot and screwing the antenna back on

One job done !! =))

Front nuts …. 290Nm….

Luckily had the kit to do it…. Although nearly not the strength=))
E26464C8-F306-4157-BBA8-32F32A6DD251.jpeg

and the jacking points had no fixings at all in any of them…. But as underneath them had been red oxided I must have removed them two years ago…. Dont remember doing it… but then I can remember if I had breakfast today =))

Bit of black gloopy , insert the anchor points and after the jacking pads have been cleaned they can go back….

Quite enjoying today …. And then footy in Crawley tonight….

Looking good Malc, did you remember to torque the rears best find a pipe extension 💪
You had me wondering then:banghead:…but I did them when I rebuilt the back end and did all the torquing at the same time.
Rear hubs only 200Nm …. So girly stuff (ooops …. Better steer clear of Hollie…=)))

One side done, panels fitted , and jacking points reinstalled....

1754479A-DB70-4029-8EC1-9E0F949C7568.jpeg

Put the wheel arches back tomorrow, and get the other side done
Even washed the wind deflector which had been sitting in the shed for about 2 years, and put that back on.
May need to put a couple of self adhesive Velcro strips just to hold the front end down ( looks like a connector
of some sort is missing....)

Considering the front panel, the rear panel and the sill came from another car , courtesy of Andy ( Spurs), the colour match is spot on.

Happy days:)
