I had my centre consol dipped some 18 months ago. I had a beige consol that was peeling around the window switches, according to the guy who done mine the art was to remove the beige plasticky finish to get a good key for the base coat, he had endless amount of trouble removing it! It's all in the prep, the base coat is light to get the wood grain to be highlighted.

That looks very nice, looks like mine needs more of a yellow base

It seems you have the mounds so it may be a case of trial and error, I do recall when we were discussing mine it was a very light colour that you would not expect to be a base colour, they spray painted different colours onto card and then placed the film over the top to get some indication of what the final out come would look like.
When you get the console be careful they seem to have a plastic / painted finish that the base coat needs to adhere to, very problematic in my case and I know the guy bitched and probably wished he never took the job, hence why I had endless problems with him and waited some 10 weeks to get it back, l wanted some other bits done but he refused, I would never recommend them.

It looks like you are doing very well and is this going to be a side hobby!!! Keep up the good work and keep us posted on the progress.

the problem i found was finding the correct film, there are not many wood films about, there are some in the states. i was looking for birds eye maple but walnut burr is the only decent film around, that may have changed now as this was about 8 months ago.

looks great, stuff like this is so satisfying, like de-moulding a fibreglass or carbon part.
