Sorry to hear about your back I have had my back problem since the late 1980s so I do understand but Exmore is a lovely part of the UK when the sun shines.
Any thing to do with electrics is not my strong point but my son gave me a Testune Analogue Diagnostic Multimeter a few years ago when I bought my Triumph TR4 and was last used on the TR to help trace the earthing failure on the horn that was intermittent but was by my MGB GT friend. One of my nephews came over last year to get the remote working but I had purchased the wrong sender, I now have the right one from Littlefeller via Oldcarman but he has not had time to visit me again from Guilford due to work and social commitments. I lock with key which does drivers door and boot and sometime unlock from passenger door all others unlock but not each the time. The battery I keep topped up with a little charger that is for that purpose so no urgency to get it sorted,
We have friends in Hunstanton but due to distance and age/fitness have not seen for 11 years, getting old is not much fun, just a few hours in the garden does my back in now.
Regards

Geoff

650 mile round trip, errrrrrrm, can I get back to you on that one @Geoff Crispin ! seriously though, my dodgy back doesn't let me do long distance driving any more.:( Hmmm, might be able to fly it next year though.

But, I'm sure we can work through it remotely, do you have a digital multimeter?
Will the meter type that I have be able to be used if & when required ?

I fully understand what has to be done and will let you know the result.
I have also found the handbook with my Testune given me by my son and it would seem to be older than yours as I have found your instructions on page 21 are in mine on page 12 but is the same. My handbook only has 31 pages so yours has more info somewhere.
My central locking with the key does not work correctly so might be the actuator on the passenger door, plus when I got the car there was no remote fob (I have got one now from Littlefeller via Oldcarman Jim) My nephew did try to get it working but at that time I had bought the wrong fob, so might be a leak from that system ?.
You mentioned flying, my nephew thought of doing the same but nearest airfield is I think in Exeter which is about 1 to 11/2 hours drive away

Hi Smiffy
That was easy enough to do, Thanks. The reading that I get is in the red half way between .1 & .2. Is that acceptable ? or does that confirm a problem.
Its been ok recently after a long run and left for about 2 weeks it started ok. I have no boot or interior light bulb in/working radio is off before ignition turned off and it is left unlocked in garage. The problem is more noticeable if radio left on when ignition is turned off and doors are locked, but alarm is not working as fob not working yet.
Your thought/comments will be much pppreciated.

Regards

Geoff

Hi Geoff
just had a bit of a busy week.

when we looked at @Tracy Dee 's we measured 0.13amps, which will drain a battery quite quick as the discharge grid in the Gunsons hand book indicates.

Suggested somewhere on here and also on a 3 series forum, we should be looking of 0.03amps, which is what we achieved on Tracys by pulling fuse 9. HOWEVER, Tracy has since reported a problem with radio reception. Refitting fuse 9 hasn't resolved this and the drawings are a bit vague as to whether fuse 9 runs the antenna amp or not.

Pulling f9 may solve it and may also affect radio reception. I don't know the answer to this.

I've also got a drain on mine and I've also got poor radio reception, but i've not had a chance to look at it yet. I'll report when I do.

Hi Geoff

it is high. The scale reads in amps.

green sector = 0.000 to 0.020 = okay
black sector = 0.020 to 0.050 = iffy
red sector = 0.050 to 1.000 = trouble!

you are at 0.150 in the "trouble" zone!

think of it as a water tank with a small leak.
if we considered upto 20 drips a hour as an acceptable wastage
and between 20 and 50 drips as "we really need to keep an eye on this"
and 50 to 1000 as "oh bugg3r, the carpet's wet"

you are 150 drips!

Interesting to hear your radio reception is rubbish as well though, ill start a separate thread andsee if anyone else comments

Thanks for the info confirmation Kevin
I will talk to a friend who I do classic car things with and see if he could come over and check out my circuits and see if we can locate problem area.

Hi Kevin
Hope that you had a good Christmas, and a Happy New Year to you/
My friend has not been able to help me yet due to health issues for him self and his wife, the radio is still not good but will fit a new grommet and see if I can check connections. Over the past few weeks the Zed has been left in the garage with doors and boot unlocked (remote not working) and radio switched off before turning off ignition and the car starts after leaving it for 3 weeks so wondering if problem could be either radio linked or something in connection with the door actuator in the passenger door, because using the key in drivers door or boot they both lock but not passenger door, but if I push the button down on the passenger door all locks lock but not unlock.
How do I go about checking each fuse to see which circuit has the problem.

Regards Geoff.

re-connect your test meter as you did before to get the 0.15 reading.

Pull one fuse at a time and see which one causes the big drop. Start with fuse 9, HiFi. then look for the central locking one. But remember to re-fit each fuse you pull before pulling the next one.

Once you've identified which fuse causes the big drop, you can start looking at the cause.
