Considering the UK is often decried as being the worst in Europe for our pathetic response of public transport to a bit of snow…I thought it was ironic that I’ve been receiving alerts from Eurostar, Deutsche Bahn and SJ (Swedish rail) about the weather affecting their services.
Still don’t know if my trains are directly affected yet, as the alert doesn’t show that far ahead, but…
- This morning‘s / tomorrow morning’s Eurostar to Paris/Brussels/Amsterdam are cancelled
- Sleeper between Hamburg & Stockholm are subject to weather-related delays
- Last night’s & tonight’s sleeper train from Stockholm to Narvik were both cancelled due to poor weather conditions about half way along the route
Luckily I’ve got fully-flexible tickets, but I assuming space on the running sleepers will be severely limited.
Edited to add:
- Eurostar was 40 minutes late arriving in Brussels because of a tiny amount of snow (reminds me of the UK excuses)
- This meant my connection was missed to Cologne, and the next one is too late to connect to my sleeper from Hamburg to Sweden
- Luckily, the sleeper to the arctic circle has also been cancelled due to too much snow, so I’ve just spent 4 hours replanning everything
