Ideally you need a proper waterproof but breathable cover, that also has a soft lining. Without breathability the car will just sweat, and without the soft lining, wind moving the cover can cause abrasion of the paint. Back in the 80s I ruined my Mk3 Spitfire after just 6 months beneath an (admittedly plastic) cover. Modern fabric covers are a lot better, particularly if they have tightening straps to prevent undue wind movement.

Do you have any photos of the tiny bubbles?
No, but I’ll get some and post them. They are on the top of each rear quarter, nowhere else. The whole car was covered.

Considering the UK is often decried as being the worst in Europe for our pathetic response of public transport to a bit of snow…I thought it was ironic that I’ve been receiving alerts from Eurostar, Deutsche Bahn and SJ (Swedish rail) about the weather affecting their services.

Still don’t know if my trains are directly affected yet, as the alert doesn’t show that far ahead, but…
  • This morning‘s / tomorrow morning’s Eurostar to Paris/Brussels/Amsterdam are cancelled
  • Sleeper between Hamburg & Stockholm are subject to weather-related delays
  • Last night’s & tonight’s sleeper train from Stockholm to Narvik were both cancelled due to poor weather conditions about half way along the route
Luckily I’ve got fully-flexible tickets, but I assuming space on the running sleepers will be severely limited.

Edited to add:
  • Eurostar was 40 minutes late arriving in Brussels because of a tiny amount of snow (reminds me of the UK excuses)
  • This meant my connection was missed to Cologne, and the next one is too late to connect to my sleeper from Hamburg to Sweden
  • Luckily, the sleeper to the arctic circle has also been cancelled due to too much snow, so I’ve just spent 4 hours replanning everything 😤

Fingers crossed there are no more changes to the schedule and you’re not waiting around unnecessarily.

My summer tires are still hanging on in there! Luckily the route to college is all well gritted. And Oxfordshire has not been hit too hard. I always make sure I am not in a rush at all in these conditions.

Although some of smaller roads/car parks can be lively with traction control off!

I am sure my Z wished it was missing out on this weather, I am going to do a proper scrub and wash of the underside fairly regularly in these conditions

Got to ask, Andy: fo you mean Winter tyres? My Z3 has all seasons tyres in all four corners.
There are Normal (summer) tyres, all season tyres and winter tyres. If you need to get about it's all about the tyres, winter being the best option for snow as they provide better traction.

Beautiful! It’s snowing here, at the moment. The snow makes everything look gorgeous.
Are you staying in Hamburg or taking an overnight train onwards? Looking forward to the next stunning photos.
Things went titsup after I posted those photos, and I spent hours in Hamburg station waiting for the sleeper to Stockholm…which ended up being 2 hours late, and arrives in Stockholm 4 hours late.

I also woke up this morning to a text from the train company telling me my 3rd night train going north from Stockholm has now been cancelled…so am considering whether I can be bothered rebooking my hotels, activities and retirement train reservations all over again...or just turn around in Stockholm and head home

An early start meant I just about managed to catch a (moving) photo of some actual snow in Malmo…

Just come in from digging my car out. Next door neighbour set off for work this morning and got stuck just down the road, he's had to leave his car there and walk back! About 8 inches here on the flat ground, but it had blown up deeper around things.

I know these cancellations are frustrating but you’ve gone so far…a final push to the Finish Line for all the gorgeous snow will be worth it ❄❄❄❄❄❄❄

It’s quite bad here, too, Ken. Gorgeous, though.
