Well latest update on the rear refurbishment, all four of the bracket bolts are out, only took 10 minutes with right tools below:

I certainly recommend a set of these, i also bought the internal version as a bit of an investment.

Only three big nuts holding it up now, just need to disconnect the sensors and brake lines and i will be ready to drop, but that will involve another new tool to assist in that.

Yes, a very good piece of kit there Rich. I have a set which everyone borrows, there are showing signs of wearing but I've had them about 10 years now.
Does the new tool have a name?=))

Tony.

You are quite correct Zeti they come as a starter pack and an expansion pack, I managed to get them together off ebay for the price of the starter pack, the good news they all fit in the case.

The pictures above did not really concern me, bushes were not in too bad a state, and the metal works just needs a clean up and repaint, plus some new parts while out. The following photos of the tank straps gave me concern though, so a different course of action to be followed:

The rear beam etc. look to be in really good nick Rich, should clean up nicely without too much fuss. Change/replace as much as you can whilst it is out.

I have a feeling though that the tank straps issue will come to us all at some point.

I agree Brian, the straps are delaminating and the bracket is pretty close, hopefully won't need welding when cleaned up, but I would advise people to check condition and treat early, as it is a big cost to drop that lot to weld the brackets.

As you say I am going to change as much as I can afford, I have got a price off Sopers for most bits and it mounts up, will have to be really hard on myself to save what I can, need to get that flywheel fitted, but safety comes first.

I think the tank is plastic is it not? If so, would not want to be welding any where near it..!!!

That's why I said it would be expensive Mike, because you would need to remove everything, I m hoping I don't have too and the brackets don't need replacing.

Rich those straps sure look nasty. Are they hard to replace? Off topic, finally. What gear ratio are you looking at for the E30 swap? Are you going for off the line or top end speed. Noticed a couple on eBay UK with different ratios that seemed a good price. JIM

You are screwing up my head with this you know! I bought my car to drive, no major time consuming changes but you and @Ashbandicoot come along and get my juices going and have me running around searching out the cost of parts used and new, then I look at my pension cheques and wonder "what are you doing idiot". But definitely following along so please proceed. JIM

If only it was that simple Ash, the tickets are cheap enough but accommodations, food and Guinness cost more than I can scrape together without parting with my other pets that being my other cars. I should have had this car when it was new as @Sport. I've got over 10k just in the 462 chev motor in parts and labour and it's not even in my 57 chev 2 dr sedan yet. Luckily I didn't pay that for it, bought it built for $2500.
