are the connections to the o2 sensor easy to test.. can you see if you got 12v to whatever pins needs to have it...?..

that youtube i just posted did say at the last 10 seconds that some ecus switch off the heater voltage if a 02 fault is present ...and wont switch it back on unless the fault is cleared ...

I think it may be the Maf that is not measuring air ?
Someome with the same fault replaced everything have you cleared all adaptions ?
They say you need to clear them when you add the new sensors so the car can relearn with out clearing them not just the code it may continue to miss read.

They say it may be an air leak after the maf on the vacuum side eventually he found it to be this and it cleared the codes.
May be worth checking the intake pipework

Didn't the 4 pots suffer with gaskets breaking down between manifolds and throttle body's? Leave her running and spray something round the flanges and see if the rev's pick up. It does sound a lot like a vacuum leak somewhere. Also leave the MAF unplugged see if she runs better.

A small update, a bit odd really, after allowing the car to run on idle doe about 20 min the lambda shows the heater error, error frequency 4. Also shows the misfire codes. So I swapped the lambda back to the old one and after driving it for 20 miles no codes, it still has the stumble on idle but no unburned fuel smell.

Possibly then a poor connection on the O2 sensor cable plug? The "stumble" on idle should not be an issue as the test is carried out at fast idle 2500 - 3000 rpm, and then the analyser allows time for the engine to return to idle speed before conducting the idle test.

to be honest, it has always had this odd stumble, i did try and swap the rear springs by myself today, it was a no go, its very difficult to get compressors in there, then when they are the right size to fit they dont have quite enough travel to compress it enough to get them out, the other option is to compress then strap, remove tool and compress some more, the problem here will be how to de-compress them, dont facy getting killed by a stupid spring.

i managed to find 2 brand new springs for £40, in there original box, purchased but never fitted by the seller.

You shouldn't need a compressor to do the rear ones mate. When you take out the lower shocker bolt the arm should push down enough to pop the old ones out and new ones in. Only thing I do is lube the rubber cups if yours has them so they slip over the locating lugs easily. An easy way to apply more leverage, if you have an assistant, it to apply the handbrake with two wheel bolt holes level across the top of the hub and screw two bolts well into the holes. Then put a bar through the bolts, under the front one and above the rear one and get someone to put their foot on the bar and push down.
