Well this Monday morning it was blowing a gale and chucking it down so I decided to stay indoors today. In the garage that is. I noticed after washing the car on Saturday that the wheel balance weights on the outside of the wheel, behind the spokes sort of "stood out" so I decided to blend them in a bit so they were not so obvious.
After finishing cleaning the wheels with the car on my lift I masked round the weights and wiped them over with some carb. cleaner to remove any grease etc.
Then I gave them a couple of coats of and aluminium silver paint which I've used on wheels since I had cars.
One other thing which caught my eye soon after I bought the car was the shut line and the body gap between the bonnet and the front bumper. Also the gap between the front edge of the bonnet and the top edge of the bumper was also a little too wide. So, today was the day.
I removed the rubber strip which stops water entering between bonnet and bumper (for the most part anyway). Several of the 7 were a little tight so I took them all out and cleaned the threads and oiled them before refitting. Once screwed in by hand and loosened a half turn I could position the bumper correctly to give a nice gap. Then all nipped up and the rubber strip replaced.
Giving a nice gap.
To adjust the bumper to bonnet gap at the wheel arch you have to access the mounting bracket at the front of the wheel arch area, removing 1 x 10mm plastic nut, 2 x 8mm self tapping bolts and the bulb access cover.
Gap before.
Compared to rear end.
And after.
And then also the N/S.
Not quite so easy to get a picture from that side and a little dark too.
A job well done that has been bugging me for ages.
Tony.
