Hi all,

Finally done the decent thing and bought a Z3 rather than mess around with classics and kit cars. Managed to find a nice 2.0 in need of a bit of TLC. I'm sure I'll be bugging you with questions as the previous owner had lost the handbook so I'm trying to figure a few things out on the fly.

Thanks
Hi from Durham, I'm new too so I guess we'll learn together

Hi all, well I'm in a bit of a pickle. Having driven last weekend with the roof down and realising that without a wind deflector I look more so like I've been dragged through a hedge, I bought one from a chap who I previously bought a tonneau from. So I come to fit it this evening and to my horror, it's about 2cm too big either side and the down struts won't go in the hole. I checked the part number and it would seem right. The part number is 82159407972

Mine is a similar type. I can measure between the pins/holes tomorrow if that's any help?

Tony.

Go to poundland and get a strip of Velcro. I fitted OEM roll hoops to my Zed and found that my wind deflector no longer fitted. I made mine fit by tying it to the hoops. OK, it wont win any prizes but it works, and being a dead ringer for Kojak I could walk through a wind tunnel without bothering my passport pic.

I spoke with the chap I bought it off and he confirmed it fitted his with no issue. By surprise he said he'd take it back from me if I wanted. That's really good of him but doesn't solve my mystery as to why it wouldn't fit. I wondered if anyone would know if the 2.0 would have any different fitment or does it sound just plain odd. I'm going to measure the distance between the centre of the holes for reference. I'm not planning immediately to fit hoops so I need to sort this soon with another deflector hopefully.

I think recently someone posted that there two variants on this type of deflector, width of pins being the difference.

Hi @Applied Thought, I measured the wind deflector on my car just now and the pins are 71cm apart. Hope this helps you.

Tony.

Hi,

Managed to get a ruler (seems my tape measure has vanished) and the centre of the holes are approx 71cm apart so would match your wind deflector. Measured my wind deflector and that seems to have a width between the pins of around 76ish. It is an OEM part so I'm still scratching my head a bit.

Right having looked around, it would seem that the part I have is from the pre-facelift car. So now it's back to looking for another one. If anyone hears of one, please drop me a line. Thought this 'bargain' was too good to be true!
