According to his seller location on eBay, it's Southport, Merseyside. If it's him, what a small world eh ?
No its not him. Very simular. Defo S5 with an X in it too.

So, back to my original point then, £116 for a reasonably short plate. Not bad. It has however caused me to have the bumper holes filled, then painted, order metal pressed plates and now I'm going to fit the front plate under the nearside headlight. Not so indirectly cheap now.....

Bought myself a personal plate this week but it means I have to rename my Zed. I've always called her "Cilla", but she'll very soon be renamed "Rio"
My new number is R10 GJO (GJO are my initials) and I think Rio is an ok name so it's turned out quite well.
When the transfer goes through I'll put the new plates on and upload a new pic.
Does that mean that she has changed gender too then, Jack!!!!;)

But, Duran Duran's song said " Her name is Rio" if I remember right?

This is the cheapest plate I've ever had. Totally free and completely coincidental! Quite nice riding around in the wife all day! :D

I must have the cheapest private plate. Only bought it a couple of weeks ago on a browsing whim.

S5 AXH.

Bought it off eBay for £116 inclusive of the transfer fee ! So I sent a cheque to DVLA for £25 and that's that. Got to be the cheapest genuine purchase surely? I can feel the "Scottish invention of copper wire" being mentioned soon.........
So can i ask what the plate stands for... Is it your name? :)

Hi, well no it's not my name, my name is Lex. The plate was just yet another receiving portal for my money. I have a private plate on one other car and two regulation plates on the other two. I feel the Z3 is timeless and I felt a private plate would suit it. Nothing more than that. Some will say that's a waste of money, others will see my reasons, either way it's a cheap way of personalising the car, albeit not with my initials.

I could've bought K800 LEX fo £400 but I have too many other things planned for the car that are more deserving of such figures, and I'd inly end up wanting to move the plate about onto another car because of its' uniqueness to me.

Got my Missus in on the act now. She's bought J111 GJO today to go on her Polo. Her name is Jill and GJO is my initials. I didn't see this one when I was looking last week. £156 plus vat plus £80 transfer fee from plates4less.com

She's chuffed to bits, lol

Bleeding miserable sods arn't they! It's obvious what it says. I have German font plates on my Zed and so far touch wood they've left me be.

Especialy when I apologised, and volunteered to remove them there and then and replace them as the old ones were in the boot, he was some smarmy sod, He said that the cost of having illegal plates had just been raised to £80, and wrote me a ticket, with a big smirk on his face, unfortunatly I went off on one and told him exactly how I felt, and why the public have no respect for people like him who abuse the power given to them, I remember saying that £80 was two hours overtime for me and he would need to work a full day to pay it off, But he was right and I was wrong so just sucked it up,

By The way Private Plates are brilliant, until you come to sell the car then it becomes a pain in the A*** to organise removal retention and issue of the old plates..

So not so much about a Private Plate gripe, but more of an eBay one.

The private plate I mentioned above - S5 AXH, I bought off of eBay and processed 3 weeks ago with the DVLA. This morning I rceieved the attached letter in the post.....

image.jpg

So it turns out, after a couple of phone calls to both the DVLA and then eBay, he's been an eBay member since January 2014, and in the month of Feb 2015 he has done this 3 times, me being the first of the three.

The upshot is the DVLA has withdrawn the plate from sale and I now need to hope that eBay can reclaim funds from the seller (doubt that'll be succesfull).

So, that 'cheapest private registration price' I claimed earlier in this thread has turned out to be one of those Mastercard joke statements.

£116 for a fraudulent retention document
£4 for postage of the document
£25 postal order to DVLA
£3 for the postal order
£25 for metal embossed 'pressed' plates with S5 AXH on them !,, grrr

It turns out I've just bought the most expnsive piece of nothing ever ! Oh wait, I can take solace in the fact that sharing this with you all will hopefully prevent anyone else from being suckered in.

I await the innevitable abuse from HardTop. ;)

Guess my new search for a private plate will not be on eBay this time !

That's a bit of tough luck mate. You can get your ebay transaction costs refunded if you paid by Paypal, but you'll probably have to take the person through small claims court to get your other outlay back.

Also, I believe MasterCard may be able to cover fraudulent actions and at least refund part of your money if you didn't use paypal. Don't sell eBay short the % of fraud cases versus the number of honest sellers is very small. JIM

Jack/Jim,

I'm not dissing eBay really, it's my own fault for not engaging the seller a bit more before making payment. I'd like to think had I done that. I would have smelled a rat at some stage of the discussion.

Anyway, as you say, i should, despite it being after the 30 days, get something back.

Where eBay are disappointing is, the seller, or at least the perceived seller, continues to defraud people, 2 off only this week according to his feedback, and despite me informing eBay of this, they have said according to UK law they need to allow them 8 days to respond.
