Too true mate, surprised they let it happen twice. :(

This is the issue with building a full exhaust on the 2.2. This first picture shows the exhaust manifold with cats built in to them.

This picture shows the M52 exhaust manifolds. According to all the information I have looked at these are the same fitment, so should be a straight swap. Using these we should be able to build back from here and use sports cats... Good news is that they are about £60-70 a pair!

Those look nice and shiny Rich. What do you reckon the quality would be like? £140 + delivery for a pair seems reasonable, just wouldn't be sure they would fit the Zeds engine bay?

Will you be getting a company car with your new role @GazHyde? Leaving time for rosie to be off the road during her works?

Working 4 days a week and having 16 days holidays I'm sure I'll find the time ;)

Looking at the stud/bolt holes on the M52 manifolds are they for more than one application and do all the ports align correctly?

Tony.

To be honest Gaz, I would not expect new headers made to the car to be that expensive, I know that MIJ performance and PP tuning do them, give them a call, mthey would also do the sports cat. The key to performance headers us ensuring the tube lengths are all the same length from each port and to the collector. This ensures the exit speed is all the same. The key to a good exhaust us maximising the speed of the exit gases, on this basis you want to ensure the paths are similar, unrestricted and keep the gases as hot as posdible, I.e. Use exhaust wrap around the headers and throughout the exhaust.

My opinion is get a larger engine zed or stick a supercharger on Rosie.

Lots of good stuff coming through but I'm going weight loss first. The heated seats come in at 4 1/2 stone each, then the spare wheel & carrier, knock the viscous fan of too.. That quirky air pump thing as well. And its a while since Christmas so I'm a bit lighter, I wish.. The pair of seats I have now weigh in at less than 1 original. Project more power is next winters task

Thanks Martin.

Spare wheel and carrier went with the subframe refresh.
Fan delete mod is on the list
I'm starting to look at seat alternatives. @Daz3 posted up the other day about S2000 seats - although he said they were a pig to fit - but they look considerably lighter. If I stay with the standard seats, I will probably look at changing/modifying the seat bases as they make the seat too high in the cabin anyway. Want to be lower down ideally as I feel like I'm sat on top of the car sometimes.

All the weight in a z3's seat is in the mechanism the seats are very light the frame and the motors are a good 70% of the weight.

Another reason I fitted them so much lighter. Does anyone know how much a standard seat weighs be interesting to know the difference? Maybe you could remove the seat off the base and fabricate it onto some runners Gaz if your not bothered about the electrical adjustment, least you could bin the heaviest part of them that way?

Not sure on the weight of the seats, but having stripped down a set before I know the majority of the weight is in the seat base and electrics. I'm happy to lose all the electrics but would prefer to still have heated seats (I drive all year round roof down!).

I've never found any of the Z3 seats particularly comfortable. The standard ones lack sideways support, the ///M seat base bolsters are too intrusive and the Sport seats just aren't quite there despite being the best of the lot. Those S2000 seats look way more comfy!

Guess I'll need to find some scrap seats and start looking at how a base could be fabricated. I'd be looking to:
  1. Lower the seat level
  2. Set a better recline on the seat base
  3. Remove all the bulky electric motors and adjuster. Happy with a conventional handle to adjust forwards/backwards position and lose height adjustment.
Doesn't really fit in to the power enhancements this thread is about, but if I improve the power to weight that's kind of the same thing!

You can buy floor mount adapaters for the z3

http://www.hackengineering.co.uk/product/vac-motorsports-floor-mount-seat-adapters-e36e46/

if you are serious about weight savings then you need either lotus elise seats (for a OEM style) or something from the aftermarket.

Those look just the job, if a tad expensive. You get what you pay for of course! Not come across that website before, got some interesting items on it.

Been browsing wistfully at Sparco and the likes for aftermarket seats, but will take a look at the Elise ones. Not looking for something too "buckety", as I'm personally built for comfort rather than speed!

Lots of the seats come in 'powerfully built' widths as well so dont be too put off. ;)

loads of people fit the lotus seats to Mx5's as they weigh feck all and sit really low
